અમેરીકામાં વર્ષોથી રહેતા ભારતીઓને વતનનો ઝુરાપો તથા આઈડેન્ટીટી–પ્રશ્ન સતાવતો હોવાથી તેમાં ઘણાં ઝનુની હીન્દુત્વનો ભોગ બનતા રહે છે. પરન્તુ અમેરીકામાં વર્ષોથી સ્થાયી થયેલા સુબોધ શાહનું આ પુસ્તક ‘કલ્ચર કેન કીલ’ રૅશનાલીઝમ અને રૅશનાલીસ્ટ થીંકીંગની દીશામાં એક તાજગીભરી વસંતઋતુનો અનુભવ કરાવે છે. 167 પાનાંના આ પુસ્તકમાં લેખકે ભારતીય પ્રગતીને બાધક એવા સામાજીક અને સાંસ્કૃતીક અવરોધોને ખુબ જ સરળ અને સચોટ ભાષામાં રજુ કર્યાં છે. લેખકે ભારતીય સમાજ અને સંસ્કૃતી પર ખુબ ઉંડું ચીન્તન કર્યું છે અને લેખકનું એવું દૃઢ માનવું છે કે ભારતે જો હજી વધુ પ્રગતી કરવી હશે તો તેણે સામાજીક અને સાંસ્કૃતીક બાબતોમાં રૅશનાલીસ્ટ દૃષ્ટીબીન્દુ અપનાવ્યા વીના છુટકો નથી. આ બાધક પરીબળો કયાં કયાં છે ?
‘જગદગુરુ ભારતે’, જગતને આધ્યાત્મીક સંદેશો આપવાનો છે અને જગતને મુક્ત થવા માટે તેને ‘અહીંસક’ ભારતને જ શરણે જવું પડશે તેવી હીન્દુત્વ અને ગાંધીજનોની તથા સર્વોદયવાળાઓની ગાંડી ગાંડી વાતોને લેખક ભાવ આપતા નથી. તેઓ તો પ્રથમ એ જ સવાલ પુછે છે કે આપણે છેલ્લાં હજાર વર્ષથી વીદેશીઓના હાથે કેમ પરાજીત થતા રહ્યા ? મહમ્મદ ગઝની લગભગ હજાર વર્ષ પહેલાં ભારતમાં આવ્યો અને એવું તે શું બન્યું કે તેણે 17 વખત ભારતમાં ચઢાઈ કરી અને ઈ.સ. 1024માં પ્રભાસ–પાટણ લુંટ્યું ? ત્યાર પછી મહમ્મદ ઘોરીએ નાલંદા વીશ્વવીદ્યાલયનો નાશ કર્યો અને ઈ.સ. 1198માં ભારતના પૃથ્વીરાજ ચૌહાણને હરાવી દીલ્હીની ગાદી પર કુત્બુદ્દીન ઐબકને મુક્યો. ઈ.સ. 1311માં અલાઉદ્દીન ખીલજીએ લગભગ આખા હીન્દુસ્તાનને જીતી લીધું. ચંગીઝખાન (1221), તૈમુર (1398), નાદીર શાહ (1739) અને અહમદશાહ અબ્દાલ્લી (1761)એ લુંટ્યું. બે સદી સુધી મુઘલોએ રાજ્ય કર્યું અને પછી લગભગ બસ્સો વર્ષ અંગ્રેજોએ રાજ્ય કર્યું ભારતની એવી કઈ કઈ નબળાઈઓ હતી કે તે સતત હારતું રહ્યું ?
આના જવાબરુપે ભારતના ચુસ્ત રાષ્ટ્રવાદીઓ એવો જવાબ આપે છે કે (1) જ્યારે આખું જગત જંગલી અવસ્થામાં હતું ત્યારે ભારતમાં અજોડ સંસ્કૃતી હતી. (2) બીજી સંસ્કૃતીઓ કે પ્રજા નાશ પામી ત્યારે આપણી પ્રજા ટકી રહી. આમાં ત્રીજો મુદ્દો પણ ઉમેરવામાં આવે છે કે ભારતની તમામ સમૃદ્ધી વીદેશીઓ (મુસ્લીમો અને અંગ્રજો) લુંટી ગયા તેથી આપણે ગરીબ રહ્યા છીએ. તો પછી સ્વતંત્રતાના 60 વર્ષ બાદ ભારતમાં આટલી દારુણ ગરીબી કેમ છે ? કેમ સમાજમાં આટલી બધી અરાજકતા છે ? જગતના સૌથી વધુ દારુણ ગરીબોની સંખ્યા કેમ ભારતમાં છે ? કેમ આટલી બધી ગંદકી અને પારાવાર અવ્યવસ્થા છે ? હવે તો ભારતને લુંટવા કોઈ આવ્યું નથી ને ? ખરેખર તો ભારતની ગંદકી, ગરીબી અને અવ્યવસ્થા માટે આપણે આંતરીક દર્શન (ઈન્સ્ટ્રોસ્પેક્ શન) કરવાની જરુર છે. ભારતનો ભવ્ય ભુતકાળ તો હજાર વર્ષ પહેલાં ખતમ થઈ ગયો; તેનું હવે શું છે ? ભારતમાં ઓરીજીનલ ચીન્તન પરમ્પરા હતી; પણ હવે તેનું શું છે ? ભુતકાળની મુડી પર જીવી શકાય તેમ જ નથી. મીથ્યા રાષ્ટ્રાભીમાન– જેનો હકીકતનો પાયો તદ્દન નીર્બળ છે– તેનાથી ‘પાનો’ તો ચઢે; પણ ‘આભાસી’. મહાનતાના આધારે રાષ્ટ્રની ગરીબી દુર ના થાય દા.ત. અત્યારે શોધાયેલા તમામ વૈજ્ઞાનીક નીયમો ભારતના ઋષીઓ દ્વારા ખોળાઈ ચુક્યા હતા અને તેઓ હજી પણ આપણા ધર્મગ્રંથોની ભાષાકીય સંજ્ઞામાં તથા સંકેતો(કોડવર્ડ)માં છુપાયેલા છે; તે માન્યતાને હકીકતનો કોઈ આધાર નથી. આ એક જુઠાણું છે. આ ગ્રંથના લેખક ભારતીય સંસ્કૃતી અને સમાજને બાધક પરીબળોમાં; પુષ્કળ અન્ધશ્રદ્ધાઓ, ખોટી માન્યતાઓ અને ખોટી રુઢીઓનો ઉલ્લેખ કરે છે. તેમાંની કેટલીક અન્ધશ્રદ્ધાઓ અને ખોટી માન્યતાઓ કે વ્યવહારોને જોઈએ. (1) ભારતના ઘણા લોકો પુષ્કળ પદાર્થોને પવીત્ર માનીને તેની પુજા કરે છે. નદીઓ, વૃક્ષો (વડ–પીપળો), ગાય, હાથી, કપીરાજ (વાંદરું), ગરુડ, ઉંદર, મુર્તીઓ, શંખ, તુલસી વગેરે… આ યાદી ઘણી લમ્બાવી શકાય. ઘણા હીન્દુ ધર્મરક્ષકો એમ કહે છે કે આ બધી ચીજોને પવીત્ર માનવાથી આપણે કુદરતના પદાર્થો અને પર્યાવરણનું રક્ષણ કરીએ છીએ અને દરેક પદાર્થમાં ઈશ્વર જોઈએ છીએ. આ વાત સાચી જણાતી નથી.
ઉપરની બધી બાબતો પવીત્ર હોય તો આપણી નદીઓ કેમ આટલી ગંદી છે ? આપણી ગાયો કેમ શહેરમાં છુટથી ફરે છે અને કાગળો તેમ જ પ્લાસ્ટીકની થેલીઓ ખાઈને મરી જાય છે ? આપણાં વાંદરાં કેમ લોકોને આટલા બધા પજવે છે ? આપણે છોડવાઓ કે વૃક્ષોની કેમ માવજત કરતા નથી ? ઉલટાની જે પ્રજા આ બધાને પવીત્ર માનતી નથી તે, પોતાનાં વૃક્ષો, નદીઓ, ગાયો વગેરેની વધારે સારી સમ્ભાળ લે છે. લેખક નીરાશ થઈને કહે છે કે ભારતીય લોકોના માનસમાં રૅશનાલીટીના દર્શન કરવા તે ન્યુયોર્કના ટાપુ પર રોબીન્સન ક્રુઝોને ખોળવા જેવું છે. (2) આપણી માન્યતાઓ અને આપણે પોતે પણ વીરોધોથી ભરપુર છીએ. આપણો ધર્મ ત્યાગ, વૈરાગ્ય, ઈન્દ્રીય–નીગ્રહ, સંયમ વગેરેની વાતો કરે છે. આપણો ધર્મ આપણે ચુસ્ત રીતે પાળીએ તો આપણને સમૃદ્ધી, સુખ, સત્ત્તા તથા સન્તાનોની પ્રાપ્તી થશે તેવાં આશીર્વચનો આપવામાં આવે છે. ભારત જગતના સૌથી ભ્રષ્ટ દેશોમાંનો એક છે. ટુંકમાં, આપણા ધર્મપાલનની પાછળ લાભ અને લોભની આપણી વૃત્ત્તીઓ રહેલી છે – ત્યાગની નહીં.
લેખક જણાવે છે કે આપણી માન્યતાઓ અને કલ્ચરલ મુલ્યોને ધરમુળથી બદલ્યા વીના આપણી પ્રગતી શક્ય નથી પશ્ચીમના દેશોની પ્રગતીનું રહસ્ય તેમના કલ્ચરમાં છે.

‘વીચાર–પુર્તી’
વરસાદ પર આપણો અંકુશ નથી. સમુદ્ર ભરપુર લહેરાય છે; પણ માણસે ઠાલવેલી ગંદકી અને રસાયણોનાં પ્રદુષણ, માણસ જાતને ક્યાં પહોંચાડશે તે કહી શકાય નહીં. ભારતમાં અને ખાસ કરીને શહેરી વીસ્તારોમાં પાણીનો ભયંકર બગાડ થાય છે. વપરાયેલાં પાણીને શુદ્ધ કરીને ફરી ફરી વાપરવાની જેટલી સગવડ અને સમ્ભાળ અમેરીકા જેવા સમૃદ્ધ દેશોમાં લેવાય છે તેમાંથી દસમાં ભાગનું કામ આપણે ત્યાં થતું નથી.
પરદેશનાં દુષણ અપનાવી લેવામાં શુરાપુરા આપણા ભણેશરીઓ અને ભદ્રવર્ગ તેમના સદ્ ગુણોનું અનુકરણ કદી કરતા નથી. પરદેશીઓની પ્રામાણીકતા અને કાર્યનીષ્ઠા આપણી નજરે ચડતાં નથી. આધ્યાત્મીક અને પવીત્ર હોવાનો અહંકાર આપણા સમાજને પછાત પાડી દે છે. મહમ્મદ ગઝની જોડે આવેલા આરબ મહાપંડીત અલ બરુનીએ નોંધ્યું છે તેમ ‘આ હીન્દુઓ એવા અહંકારી છે કે પરદેશીઓમાં પણ વીદ્વતા, પવીત્રતા અને તત્ત્વજ્ઞાન હોય છે તેવું માનવા તૈયાર નથી.’
અલ બરુની એક હજાર વરસ પહેલાં થઈ ગયા; પણ આપણે હજુ એ જ ઠેકાણે ઠેરના ઠેર ઉભા છીએ, એમાં લેશમાત્ર પરીવર્તન આવ્યું નથી.

‘અભીવ્યક્તી’ 
There are lots of truths in this article. India is a very old country. The Indiana people in India stopped to think & to find out thye truth long time ago. We want readymade thing for us but it is not possible. In spiritualism, there is no short cut. You have to pay the right price.
In USA , majority of Indians blindly follow Indian customs and reach no where. I am from India & sellted here since 1977. Indians are know for follwing somebody and copycat others.
The best thing is to combine & use best from Western & Eastern culture.

“પશ્ચીમના દેશોની પ્રગતીનું રહસ્ય તેમના કલ્ચરમાં છે……”અને ભૂલશો નહીં કે એ સંસ્કૃતિની દુર્દશા પણ એમની પ્રગતિમાંથી જ ઉદ્ભવી છે,જે આ બધાંથી તરબત પણ છેઃબુરાઈ, દુષ્ટતા, નીતિભ્રષ્ટતા, દુર્વર્તન, દુર્ગુણ, વ્યસન, ગંભીર ટેવ, અડિયલપણું, અપલક્ષણ.(vice).

હું પણ ૧૯૮૭થી અમેરિકા છું અને મેં આ બહુવિધ(મલ્ટિકલ્ચરલ) સંસ્કૃતિની નબળાઈ અને મૂલ્યહ્રાસ જોયાં છે જ્યાં દર ૩ સેકન્ડે એક ગુનો નોંધાય છે અને દર ૩૦ સેકન્ડે એક મર્ડર સંભવે છે.

This western culture is pro material happiness. They invented all comforts for life & did medical research to have abetter life. You have to lose to gain something in life.
Today India is following western culture and back home, all old good values of life are eroding & disapperaing.
The practical way to become happy in life to select good things from both culture and use them wisely in your life.
I am not against any way of life & culture.

આશા છે કે બીજા હપ્તામાં લેખકે વર્ણ વ્યવસ્થા અને એમાંથી આજે વિકસેલી જ્ઞાતિપ્રથાને દૂષણમાં ગણાવી હશે. કારણ કે આપણું સામાજિક પતન આ કારણે થયું છે. અંધશ્રદ્ધા સામાજિક, આર્થિક, સામાજિક અને માનસિક શોષણનું પરિણામ છે, કારણ નહીં.
હું નથી માની શકતો કે આપણે વડ અને નાગની પૂજા કરતા હતા એ કારણે આક્રમણખોરો આપણા સામે જીત્યા. વર્ણવ્યવસ્થા અને કોમવાદની વિરુદ્ધ આપણે બોલીએ નહીં તેનો અર્થ એ થાય કે આપણે સહેલાં ટાર્ગેટ શોધીને વીર હોવાનો દેખાવ કરીએ છીએ.

Causes of blind faith? A matter of huge detail that needs a book, not a blog.
Ritual may or may not contribute directly to a defeat but the irrational mindset that it tolerates, encourages and promotes— THAT, is the main source of a huge number of our problems.

વર્ણવ્યવસ્થામાં દોષો છે જ. આ દોષો દૂર કરવાનો કોઈ ઉપાય દેખાય છે? શા માટે આપણે માત્ર નામ નથી લખતાં? અટકનું પૂંછડું શા માટે આપણી સાથે જોડાયેલું રહે છે?
માત્ર વર્ણ વ્યવસ્થા જ નહીં રહેણી-કરણી અને ખાણી-પીણી એ માનવ ને માનવથી જુદો પાડે છે.
એક વ્યક્તિ બટેટા નહીં ખાતો હોય અને બીજીને બટેટા વગર નહીં ચાલતું હોય તેને સાથે બેસીને જમવું હશે તો બે શાક બનાવવા પડશે.
શું શરાબી અને છાશ પીનારા એક ટેબલ પર બેસીને સ્વસ્થ ચર્ચા કરી શકશે?
શું માંસાહારી અને શાકાહારી એક ટેબલ પર સાથે બેસીને જમી શકશે?
અંધારુ છે, અંધારુ છે તેમ બુમો પાડવાથી અંધારુ દૂર થશે? મારી બહેને વૈષ્ણવ વણીક યુવક સાથે લગ્ન કર્યાં. શું દરેક જ્ઞાતિઓ અને કુટુંબો આવા આંતર જાતિય લગ્નો કરવાની શરુઆત કરી શકશે? મનુ સ્મૃતિને તડકે મુકીને બ્રાહ્મણ કન્યા વણિક યુવકને પરણી.
કોઈ સ્મૃતિ અને શ્રુતિ આપણને નડતી નથી આપણાં પૂર્વગ્રહો આપણને નડે છે.

પૂર્વની કાળી બાજુ અને પશ્ચિમની ઉજળી બાજુ.
સિક્કાની બીજી બાજુ દર્શાવતો લેખ વાંચવાની અહીં આશા નથી.

ભરત ખંડના લોકો પોતાની મુર્ખાઈ સ્વીકારશે પણ શીતળા નાબુદીની જેમ. અફઘાનીસ્તાન, બંગલાદેશ અને પાકીસ્તાનમાં શીતળા નાબુદ થાય એટલે પછી સ્વીકારવું. પોલીયોમાં પણ એવું જ સમજવું.
પૃથ્વી ગોળ દડા જેવી છે એ આખી દુનીયાએ સ્વીકાર્યું એના પછી ૨૦૦ વરસ હા પુરા ૨૦૦ વરસ પછી આપણે માંડ માંડ સ્વીકારવા કબુલ થયા.
જો પૃથ્વી ગોળ હોય અને સુરજ દાદાની આસપાસ ફરતી હોય તો સ્વર્ગ, નરક અને મોક્ષ ક્યાં જાય? બસ આ મોક્ષને ઠસાવવા આપણે અધોગતી તરફ જઈ રહ્યા છીએ.
ભૃસ્ટાચાર, ગરીબી, મહીલા અત્યાચાર, (બાળકી દુધ પીતી, સતી પ્રથા, વીધવા પુન: લગન પ્રતીબંધ, કોણ જાણે કેટલા અત્યાચર) એ મોક્ષની રચના સાથે સંકડાયેલ છે.

We (Most of) Indians must break and come out of all superstitions and so called relgious/cultural customs. These have deeply imbibed hypocracy, greed and intellectual bankruptcy. We blindly hero worship even those who have immorally gained power through money and vice versa. Most of so-called saints propagate and misinterprete irrational theories on TV and “satsangs” . How do we tolerate astrological predictions issued on TV, Newspapers and other media daily? Can our Society progress/prosper unless we take care of hygine, morality, ecology and co-brethrens? Whom shall we look upto to cleanse this shortcomings? Neither Govt , politicians nor those petty sectarian saints will ever take up this task. Only rationalists can and will have to help the society for liberation.

ભારતને સમજવું હોય તો થોડા વર્ષો ઓફીસમાં બેસીને ન સમજી શકો. શું તમે ભારત યાત્રા કરી છે? શું તમે ગામે ગામ ફર્યા છો? પરિસ્થિતિ સપાટી પર દેખાય છે તેના કરતા યે ભયંકર જોવા મળશે. તેવી જ રીતે અમેરીકાનો જો નીકટથી અભ્યાસ કરશો તો ત્યાએ સપાટીના ચળકાટ પાછળ ઘણો ગોબરવાડો હશે. પૂર્વ અને પશ્ચિમ, હિંદુ અને રેશનાલિઝમ તમે જાત જાતના વર્ગીકરણ કરશો તો યે જ્યાં સુધી મનુષ્ય નિર્માણકારી અને ચારિત્ર્ય ઘડતરનું શિક્ષણ નહીં આપવામાં આવે ત્યાં સુધી સ્વાર્થ અને ઈંદ્રિયલોલુપતાની ગુલામી માણસ ભોગવતો આવશે.
રેશનાલીઝમના નામે આપણે એક બીજા પર કાદવ ઉછાળીને કશુંએ સિદ્ધ ન કરી શકીએ. રેશનાલિઝમ જો માત્ર વિચાર વાયુ વકરાવતો બુદ્ધિવાદ હોય અને જો તે ખરેખર કશું નક્કર પરીણામ કે સુધારો ન આપી શક્તું હોય તો તે ય એક પ્રકારનું ISM જ બની રહેશે. અત્યારે ય લોકોને hindu ISM, islam ISM, Christian ISM અને સહુથી વધારે તો igo ISM પજવે છે. તેમાં એક વધારાના ISM નો ઉમેરો કરવા સીવાય Rationalism નક્કર રીતે શું કરી શકે તે દર્શાવવામાં આવે અને તેના કરતાએ તેણે કરેલા કાર્યો, પહેલા અને પછીની પરિસ્થિતિનો વાસ્તવિક ચિતાર આપે તો તેણે કશુંક માનવ જાતને ઉપયોગી કાર્ય કર્યું ગણાશે.

You are quite right. But my emphasis is on What rather than Who (is responsible for our downfall for centuries).

These are the kind of questions I have asked and answered. We need a deeper inquiry into the basic ideas that we live by.

@ atulbhai……મનુષ્ય નિર્માણકારી અને ચારિત્ર્ય ઘડતરનું શિક્ષણ આપવામાં આવે તો પણ સ્વાર્થ અને ઈંદ્રિયલોલુપતાની ગુલામી માણસ ભોગવતો આવશે. જ્યા સુધી ઉપરવાળો હયાત છે, અને આ પ્રુથ્વી પરના દરેકે દરેક મનુશ્યો એમના જ સંતાનો છે અને એથી અપણે સૌ આપસમાં ભાઈ-બહેન છીએ અને એ પરમ્પિતાની આંખો આપણે સૌને જોઈ રહી છે, એના અદશ્ય કાન આપને સૌને સાંભળી રહ્યા છે, અને એના અદશ્ય હાથ અને લાકડી સૌને યોગ્ય સમયે ફટકારતી અને બચાવતી રહે છે, એવુ જો લોકો સમજી લેષે તો એ અનુભવશે પણ અને અનુભવશે એટલે આપોઆપ દરેક મનુષ્યનુ ચરીત્ર ઘડાતુ જશે. પણ મોંકાણ તો એ જ છે કે “અલ્બે રુની” એ જે કહ્યુ એ ખરેખર સાચુ જ કહ્યુ છે.

I am a contributor as a BOOK REVIEWER and write other articles, to the monthly, free, magazine ” GUJARAT DARPAN” being published by shri, Subhash Shah and Shri Kalpesh Subhash Shah with the contributions made by the writers,poets and other new comers.
Shri Subodh Shah and I had long discussion on the same subject that he has discussed in his book, “CULTURE CAN KILL.” I am reading it and mostly my review on this book will be submitted to the editor next month.
Shri Subodh Shah has done a very deep study of all the related subjects and books….not only related to Hindu mythology but other religions also and substantiated quoting at the appropriate place.
He has done a wonderful research which can help some student of sociology earning a Ph.D degree. He has put his through study on the pages of his book. Some one may agree with him…some may not. Its a study for intellectual students…..and interested indians.
I loved this book which is helping widen one’s horizon of the subject/s touched.
This book,as I have discussed with Shri Subodhbhai, be made / promoted as a part of study books at college level in the subject of sociology.
I suggest that every contributing member of this blog study the book as such. Thanks to Prof. Dhaval Mehta for his review.

This is a vast subject with good and bad arguments on either side. You have to assess and choose. That is why a book was needed.
You have expressed your opinions and I agree with some of them, not with others. I have discussed all of it in my book. I cannot repeat it here.

Dear shri Subodhbhai, Thank you for replying to kmy e mail on the subject of your book.Will try and find this book in Surat, read and then reply.Nothing wrong for being a rationalist.But that should not be used as a stick to beat up Hindus and Hinduism or Indians or India.There are enough non Indians doing that for us.We need to find solutions to our problems of goverance, economy and cultural invasion from the west.Eg Coke.Is it good for health or bad? pornography? drugs? wars? Vietnam? Iraq? Syria? Libya? is it RATIONAL to go to war with any country to safeguard democracy or peace?
India, like China is being perceived as a challenger to the established global order.There are forces out there to denigrate India.Rationalists should not fall pray to this conspiracy.

If I love my Mother (land), should I remain silent about her miseries? I have explained this in my Introduction itself.
Criticism can be blunt but true. We must have the courage to face our faults. Did not Savarkar, Vivekaanand, Dayanand and Gandhi too criticize Hindus? I have quoted them all.
My book is not about politics, though references are inevitable.
Rationalism is Reason and modernity, according to what I understand about it. Reason does not mean going back to the ancient ignorant ages.

ભારતમાં જન્મીને येन केन कारणेन – येन केन प्रकारेण l અમેરિકા વિગેરે.માં નિજસ્વાર્થે ભાગી ગયેલા સેકંડક્લાસ અમેરિકનોને આપવાની ગમે અને લેવાની ન ગમે તેવી સલાહના થોકડા ફટકારવાની ફેશન થઇ પડી છે.જો તમને ખરેખર ભારતનું હિત હૈયે વસેલું હોય તો ખાલી વાણી વિલાસને બદલે કંઇક નક્કર કાર્ય કરો.ગરમ પ્રદેશમાં પાણી વધુ વપરાય જ અને ઠંડા પ્રદેશમાં ક્યારેક અસ્નાન પણ નભી જાય.ગંદકી માનસિક,શારીરિક,સામાજીક,અને પર્યાવરિક હોય શકે. અને હરકોઇ ગંદકી અન્ય ત્રણને અસર કરે જ. સતત પરિવર્તન એ નિયતિ છે. ભારત સંપૂર્ણ સ્વર્ગ નથી. પણ અમેરિકાની સરખામણીમાં ત્યાં બંધનયોગ, અહં અને દંભ જ્યાદા છે. મારી યાદમાં એક ભાઇએ કહેલું તાજું થાય છે.”ભારતમાં માણસ વસે છે. અમેરિકામાં મશીન વસે છે.”……મિત્રો આજે પણ મુઠ્ઠીભર ગાંગડુઓને બાદ કરતાં ભારતમાં પ્રેમ,સહિષ્ણુતા,માન-આમન્યા,સહનશક્તિ. અન્યને મદદરૂપ થવાની ભાવના પ્રબળ છે. મિત્રો એક ડોલરિયો દેશ જેમાં તમે વસો છો..ત્યાં ડૉલર સિવાય ભરત કરતાં વધું શું છે.??. ઠેર-ઠેર શિસ્તના નામે બંધનયોગ ?! મિત્રો તમે ગમે તેટલુ કરશો તો પણ પરદેશ તમને ત્યાંના સેકંડ ક્લાસ નાગરિક જ ગણશે. અહીં તમને થોડું આર્થિક ઓછું મળ્યાનું જરૂર લાગશે. પણ તેની અવેજીમાં બીજું ઘણુંબધું મળશે..મિત્રો, કંઇક મેળવવા માટે કંઇક ગુમાવવું પડે છે.પણ એ કંઇક ગુમાવેલું અણમોલ સર્વસ્વ હોય શકે જેથી પેલું કંઇક મેળવ્યા છતાં સોદો ખોટનો સાબિત થશે…માફ કરજો કદાચ વધારે અજુગતું લખાયું હોય શકે. પણ આ મારા અંગત અસંદિગ્ધ વિચારો દર્શાવ્યા છે.

નોંધ: આ બધી ચર્ચાઓ મુળભુત લેખકને વધુ વિચારવા અને માત્ર સમસ્યા નહીં પણ વ્યવહારુ અને અમલમાં મુકાયેલા પ્રયોગો કરવાની પ્રેરણા મળે તે માટે કરવામાં આવે છે. જુદા જુદા પ્રતિભાવકોને પણ વધુ વિચારણા કરીને આત્મ મંથન કરીને કશુંક નક્કર કાર્ય શી રીતે થઈ શકે તે માટેના પ્રયત્નો કરવા પ્રેરિત કરવામાં આવે છે. કોઈને ય ઉતારી પાડવાનો કે કોઈને ય ખોટી પ્રશંસાથી ફુલાવી મુકવાનો ઈરાદો કદી નથી હોતો.
ગોવિંદભાઈના પ્રયત્નો ખરેખર સરાહનીય છે કે જેને લીધે જુદા જુદા વિચારકો એક મંચ પર આવીને પોતાના વિચારો રજૂ કરી શકે છે. નવા અને શક્તિશાળી વિચારોમાંથી જ નવા અને જોમવંતા કાર્યો જન્મશે.

ડોલરિયો દેશ, ભૌતિકવાદી, માણસ નહિ મશીન આવું બધું કહેવાની પણ એક ફેશન હોય છે. મેરા ભારત મહાન હતું એની ના નહિ પણ આશરે હજાર વર્ષથી તો નથી જ તે કબુલવા મન કઈ રીતે થાય? ભારતમાં માણસ વસે છે કે ઘેટાં? જો કે મશીન કરતા ઘેટું સારું એમાં જીવ તો હોય છે? હહાહાહાહા!! સતત ભૌતિકવાદને વખોડતા એ.સી. ગાડીઓમાં હાથમાં મોબાઈલ લઇ ફરતા બાવાઓને જોઈ હસવું આવે છે. હહાહાહાહા!!!
શ્રી સુબોધ શાહનો હેતુ બીમારીઓ બતાવી એમાંથી મુક્ત થઇ ફરી મેરા ભારત મહાનનો નારો લગાવી શકીએ તેવો પ્રયત્ન માત્ર લાગે છે. પ્રોબ્લેમ એ છે કે બીમારીઓને આપણે ઘરેણાં સમજી લીધા છે. એટલે બીમારીઓ વિરુદ્ધ કોઈ બોલે તો એને યેનકેનપ્રકારેણ બંધ કરી દેવા હોબાળો મચાવીએ છીએ.
ખાલી શ્રી ધવલ મહેતાનો અભિપ્રાય વાંચી પુસ્તક વિષે ધારણા બાંધી લેવી વધુ પડતી છે. વાંચ્યા વગર જ સમજી લેવાય છે કે ભારતીય સંસ્કૃતિ વિરુદ્ધ હશે. બીમારીઓ વિરુદ્ધ છે ભારત વિરુદ્ધ નહિ. દરેક ભારતીયે વસાવવા જેવું પુસ્તક છે.

ચર્ચા હંમેશા માણસો વચ્ચે થઈ શકે. ન મશીન સાથે થાય, ન ઘેંટા સાથે થાય. જે દિવસે આપણે એક-બીજાને ઉતારી પાડવાનું બંધ કરશું પોતાની ભૂલ પોતાની મેળે સ્વીકારશું, બીજાના ગુણો જોઈને તેને આપણાં જીવનમાં ઉતારતા શીખશું તે દિવસે સહુનું કલ્યાણ થશે.
પહેલા તો આપણે સારા વિદ્યાર્થી થવાની જરુર છે. કોઈ પણ લેખ સર્વાંગ સંપુર્ણ મોટા ભાગે ન હોય જેવી રીતે સર્વાંગ સંપુર્ણ માણસ ન હોય. દરેક લેખમાંથી સાર તારવીને અસાર ફેંકી દેતા શીખવું તે દરેક વાચકની પાયાની આવશ્યકતા છે.
હું ભારતમાં રહેતો હોઉ તો સ્વાભાવિક છે કે મને ભારત પ્રત્યે વધારે લગાવ હોય તેને લીધે અમેરીકામાં રહેતી વ્યક્તિ મશીન નથી થઈ જતી. તેવી રીતે જે વધારે આર્થિક, સામાજિક તેમ જ શૈક્ષણિક લાભ લેવા માટે સ્થળાંતર કરી ગયાં છે તેમને જ્યાં રહેતા હોય તે વધારે પ્રિય હોય તેથી તેણે ભારતના લોકોને ઘેંટા કહેવાની જરુર નથી.
આપણને ખબર હોવી જોઈએ કે જો આપણે એક ગાળ બોલશું તો સામાની પાસે તો ગાળનો આખો શબ્દકોશ હશે. થોડાક માયાળું અને સહાનુભુતિ ભર્યા શબ્દો બોલતા શીખવાની યે આપણે જરુર છે.
ભારતમાં બધા બાવાઓ નથી રહેતા અનેક સજ્જનો રહે છે અને તેથી પડી પડી ને ય આ દેશ ફરી બેઠો થઈ જાય છે. હજારો વર્ષની તપસ્યાનો પાયો આ દેશમાં છે અને અનેક ઠોકરો પચાવીને ઉભો છે તેથી તેમ કાઈ થોડાક લોકોના અપશબ્દો અને વ્યંગ બાણોથી તે મુર્છિત નહીં થઈ જાય.
પુસ્તકનું મુખપૃષ્ઠ બીજા લોકોને ત્રાસ થાય તેવું ન હોવું જોઈએ – સારા માર્કેટીંગ કરનારા તે વાત જાણે છે. સુબોધભઈ કદાચ સારા લેખક હશે પણ માર્કેટીંગમાં નબળા છે તેમ વિનયપૂર્વક કહેવાની ઈચ્છા થાય છે.

I agree with Shri Bhupendrasingh Raol. I believe that if I have to pass a Master Degree exam at the university in a subject, I have to study the books college has recommended. AND if, I want to pass the exam with extraordinary flying colors, I will be required to read the other related books on the subject and answer the questions. IN INDIA A BRIEF GUIDE IS AVAILABLE TO STUDY AND PASS THE EXAM…..THIS IS NOT A RIGHT WAY TO PASS EXAM……….
As Shri Raol has explained, Mr. Subodh Shah has, after through study of the related history and other books, has spotted the problems India is facing. If these problems are honestly studied and honestly solved, India can once again be “MERA DESH MAHAN” I HAVE TO FIRST ACCEPT MY SHORTCOMINGS HONESTLY. I request our learned friends to use the book by Shri Shah as a reference and read other books, related to the subjects, Shri Shah has touched in his book & than discuss to find out the REAL problems, India is facing and think about the solutions which can help India to be on the top of the world. Let me quote one example…..
My son has married a white girl. She has seen in him her ideal companion while at the university..She, when both were studying at Penn State University, living at the hostel (and unmarried), had done every help to ease his heavy schedules by cooking for him. She was devotional. After marriage we have been seeing that she is more devotional to him….may be more than a common married woman in this whole world…
Now as per Gita, Adhyaya 1…Shlock no# 39 to 42…. I will have VARNASHANKAR GRAND CHILDREN AND MY WIFE AND I WILL BE TORTURED IN NARAK after our death.
WE WILL BE HAPPY TO BE IN NARAK., If there is one. BUT TODAY MY SON IS IN SWARGA….ON THIS EARTH…WE ARE HAPPY ABOUT THEM THAT THEY ARE MADE FOR EACH OTHER AND LIVING REAL HAPPY LIFE IN THE SWARG ON THIS EARTH. અરે, હઝારીસાહેબ, નર્ક મળે તો સારું જ છે! ત્યાં આપણા જેવા જ માણસો મળશે, માનો કે સ્વર્ગમાં જઈએ તો શું કરવાના ત્યાં? કલ્પવૄક્ષની નીચે બેસીને વિચારો કે તરત બેઠે બેઠે બધી ઇચ્છાઓ પૂરી થઈ જાય.બસ, પછી આખો દિવસ બેઠા રહો. ખાલી મન શેતાનનું ઘર. એટલે સ્વર્ગમાં શેતાની વૃત્તિવાળા લોકોની સંખ્યા વધુ હોવાને શક્યતા છે! એક ઇચ્છા કદી પૂરી નહીં થાય. અપ્સરાઓ મળે તે. અરે એ બધી વી. આઇ. પી.ઓની (ઋષિ મુનિઓ અને દેવતાઓની) સેવામાંથી નવરી થાય ત્યારે આપણી પાસે આવે ને? નરક સારું છે. લગભગ આ દુનિયા જેવું જ હશે!

As Mark Twain said: “I don’t know about Heaven and Hell. I have friends in both places.” But I did say something about them both in my book. (Only) For anyone with a little sense of humor, let me give a sample here:
“The ‘evil’ Westerners are gambling, beef eating, divorcing, immoral (according to us). Yet they are prosperous and happy. I don’t know if they will go to Hell. But I do know that the very pious, virtuous Indians today are not too far from the Hells of pollution, disease, hunger and suffering.” (page 67)
As per the theory of Karma, the morally great Indians will be reborn in America. And all the bad Americans can be reborn in the Hell of India in next birth.

In a game there should be two teams. Yes, their healthy goal should be one target, WINNING. No leg pulling. We were taught ” Jiti gaya re jiti gaya…Ramnara sau jiti gaya…Hari gaya re hari gaya…ghare betha te hari gaya. Also we were at primary school level taught that…One should not be “KUVAMANA DEDKA.”..THERE IS A BIG WORLD OUTSIDE..and YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THAT WORLD SITTING IN THAT WELL.
I request you to live in America for at least two years and mingle with all the cross section of the people of this land of immigrants. You will yourself change your views.,(Unless you want to be honest)..that is my guarantee. Please do not repeat what is heard and not personally seen or experienced.
In Jainism the sant is required to walk…that is the law. The BANDHU TRIPUTI…revolutionize and they flew to America.
I request all my friends to read one new section that is just started by the Editor,Hasmukh Barot of GUJARAT TIMES being published from New York…The section is ” SUKH NAMNO DESH AMERICA ”
All sorts of opinions are being received by the editor and he is printing…+ve OR -ve….This step has opened up a new horizon to know the minds of Indians…particularly Indians…of VRUDHASHRAM…i.e. age above 50 ….living in USA where they are respected served by everybody including the Government. Same way women are being respected. Every human being as well as every animal is taken care of as if they are their own beloved relatives
Also there was a tradition to become SATI…after a woman’s husband’s death, in India.. Shri Natubhai Patel of Amdavad., after the destruction done by the 2001 earthquake in Morbi, started helping single man or / and woman to join in matrimony with each others consent and consent of their children. This is a step of human psychology…to make two single lonely individuals who seek or need warmth of another person who is close….to his or her heart and mind……..This is a +ve step to me. I do not believe in that age old VIDHUR OR VIDHAVA CAN NOT REMARRY….BAL-VIDHAVA WERE FORCED TO SUFFER HER WHOLE LIFE LIVING ALOOF….and so many other inhuman laws which were forced by the religion and the champions of this religion.
I SALUTE SHRI NATUBHAI PATEL and bow my head and heart to him.HE IS THE REAL SANT…RUSHIMUNI….WHO DOES NOT HAVE TO DO KATHA ON RAMAYAN OR MAHABHARAT OR GITA…THE REGULAR KATHAKARS ARE NOW RICH.AND INTERESTED IN GETTING HIGH PRAISE IN THE SOCIETY…SHRI NATUBHAI AND HIS WIFE SPEND THEIR OWN MONEY TO HELP NEEDY GETTING MARRIED, EVEN POOR YOUNG GIRLS AND ALSO GIRLS AND BOYS WITH BIRTH DEFECTS. THE ACTIVITY IS FREE FOR THE PARTICIPANTS. THIS COUPLE IS IN REAL SENSE “PUJANIYA”..and NOT THOSE PREACH AND EARN MONEY….
These are few examples. To know more one must study, keeping his or her EYES,EARS,HEARTS and BRAIN/MIND OPEN., STUDY…WHAT IS RIGHT AND WHAT IS WRONG IN DAILY LIFE.(What is written in those old books does not anticipate problems of a person in 21st century)……

અમેરીકા કદાચ સારું હોય તો યે સવા અબજ ભારતીયો ત્યાં આવે તો તેને ય નરસું બનાવી દેશે. તેને બદલે ઠીક છે કે ભલે અમે અહીં સડ્યા કરીએ 🙂

બીજી વાત કે અમેરીકાની વિદેશનીતીથી એક ભારતીય તરીકે હું પ્રસન્ન ન હોઉ તો હું અહીં બેઠા તેના કેવી રીતે વખાણ કરી શકું?
ભારતે જ્યારે અણુબોંબ બનાવ્યો ત્યારે તેણે ભારત પર જાત જાતના પ્રતિબંધો મુક્યાં. ભારતને તે પ્રતિબંધોથી થોડી મુશ્કેલી થઈ તો તે વધારે સ્વતંત્ર બન્યું અમેરીકાની ગુલામીમાંથી. અત્યારે તેને ભારતના વિશાળ ગ્રાહક વર્ગની જરુર છે એટલે લટુડા પટુડા કરે છે તે ય સ્વાર્થ માટે.
મારે માટે અમેરીકા એટલે ભારતમાં રહેતાં એક ભારતીયની દૃષ્ટિએ અમેરીકા. તમારે માટે અમેરીકા એટલે અમેરીકાના એક નાગરીક તરીકે અમેરીકા. આપણાં દૃષ્ટિકોણ જુદા રહેવાના.

મને એમ લાગ્યું કે તમે અમેરિકાથી અંજાયા છો તેથી થયું કે અહીં રહીને અંજાવું તે કરતાં ત્યા જઈને ભીંજાવું સારું. તમે જો આપણી માતૃભૂમિને ખરા હ્રદયથી ચાહતા હો તો હું તમારા ચરણોમાં બેસીશ. તપ્ત લોકો ક્યાં તપે છે તેની મને કશી ખબર નથી. છતાં જો તમે મને જણાવશો તો હું મારાથી બનતો પ્રયાસ દુ:ખ હળવું કરવાનો કરીશ.

સાચી વાત છે. હું અમેરિકાથી અંજાયેલો છું – માત્ર દોઢસો વર્ષના ગાળામાં કાળા-ગોરા સમસ્યાની બાબતમાં લોકોમાં આવેલા જબ્બરદસ્ત, આમૂલ પરિવર્તનથી અંજાયેલો છું. ત્યાંની આંતરિક લોકશાહીથી અંજાયેલો છું. લોકો ધર્મને સામાન્ય જીવનથી દૂર રાખી શકે છે અને બાઇબલ અને વિજ્ઞાનને અલગ રાખીને રહી શકે છે, એ વાતથી અંજાયેલો છું.
પરંપરાને નામે જે સાચું લાગે તેને ઠોકરે નથી ચડાવતા તેનાથી અંજાયેલો છું. આ બધાથી તમે અંજાયા નથી?
આમ છ્તાં. અમેરિકાના મૂડીવાદનો હું વિરોધી છું. દુનિયામાં દાદાગીરી કરવાની એની વિદેશ નીતિનો વિરોધી છું. પોતાને ત્યા ખેડૂતોને સબસિડી આપવા છતાં ભારત અને બીજા વિકાસશીલ દેશોમાં ખેતીને અપાતી સબસિડી બંધ કરવાની એની હઠનો વિરોધી છું, દુનિયામાં અને ભારતમાં ફેલાતા અમેરિકી બજારવાદનો વિરોધી છું. ભારતમાં મધ્યમ વર્ગ એનું ઉત્સાહપૂર્વક સ્વાગત કરે છે એ વાતનું મને દુઃખ છે.આ બજારવાદને કારણે અનૈતિકતા વધી છે એ ભારતમાં આપને સમજતા નથી એ વાતનું દુઃખ છે.
અમેરિકાની લોકશાહીનો પ્રશંસક હોવા છતાં ત્યાં ડેમોક્રસી વિકૃત થઈને કૉર્પોરેટોક્રસીમાં કેરવાવા લાગી છે એને હું આખી દુનિયા માટે ખતરનાક માનું છું.
અમેરિકાની પ્રજા અને અમેરિકાની સરકારને હું અલગ કરું છું. અમેરિકી સરકારનો વિરોધી છું, અમેરિકી પ્રજાનો નહી. અને જે અંજાવા લાયક છે તેનાથી અંજાયેલો છું.એમ કહેવાથી મારા દેશપ્રેમમાં ડાઘ લાગતો જણાતો નથી.
અમેરિકામાં મંદીને કારણે આજે પણ નોકરી ધંધો ગુમાવી બેઠેલા નવ ટકા (બહુ મોટૉ આંકડો છે એક સમૃદ્ધ દેશ માટે) સામાન્ય અમેરિકન નાગરિકો માટે મને સહાનુભૂતિ છે. ત્યાં ગયેલા ભારતીયો શરૂઆતથી જ લાખો અમેરિકનો કરતાં ઊંચા સ્તરે હતા અને ગજા પ્રમાણે સોડ તાણવાની આપણી ટેવને કારણે ત્યાં ગયેલા ભારતીયોને બહુ નુકસાન નથી થયું. આમ છતાં ભારતીયો માટે ત્યાં સ્વર્ગ છે તેથી ખુદ અમેરિકનો માટે પણ સ્વર્ગ છે એમ હું નથી માનતો.
લાંબું તો થયું છે, પણ હું અંજાયેલો હોવાની તમારી શંકા એક અર્થમાં સાચી હોવાનું ઠરાવવા માટે આટલું લખવાનું કરૂરી લાગ્યું.. આશા છે કે અમેરિકાની આવી બાબતોથી અંજાવાનું તમે પણ પસંદ કરશો.

Whether India is better or America, that is not the question.
The real question is whether the Values, goals and ideals being practiced in India have proved to be on the whole better or worse than those practiced in the Western and other countries. Do you like Values like Equality, Individualism, Skepticism, etc. or do you like their opposites? Issues too complex to decide in a minute in e-mails. I have advocated some Values propagated in non-Western countries also. Please see the quote from Mitch Albom that I have placed before the title page itself. Thanks. — Subodh —

મારી બુક અને મારો બ્લોગની વાતો કરતા અIપણે સૌ આપણી અરાજકતાનું મૂળ કારણ આપણI ભ્રષ્ટ રાજકારણીઓ છે તે ક્યાં સુધી ટાળીશુ? આપણી આંખો સામે ભારત છોડો પરદેશ જઇ જોત જોતામાં આગળ વધેલ સામાન્ય વ્યક્તિ શું સૂચવે છે? આપણી રાજકીય નિર્બળતા અને ભ્રષ્ટતા જ્યારે સુધરશે ત્યારે આપણI આ ચર્ચા નI ઘણા બધા પ્રશ્નો આપોઆપ હલ થઈ જશે! આપણો ઇતિહાસ બતાવે છે કે આપણI પ્રાચીન રાજાઓ જેવી ધાર્મિકતા, નૈતિકતા, અને વીરતા જેવા બીજા મૂલ્યોનો બીજે ક્યાંય જોટો ન હતો અને તેથીજ તેમની પ્રજા ખૂબ જ સુખી હતી! આવા રાજાઓની લાંબી પરંપરાએ સમૃદ્ધિ અને સફળતા ના સોપાનો સર કર્યા! તેથી જ ભારત પર પરદેશી હુમલાઓ પણ વધ્યાં! આ રામાયણ અને મહાભારતની કથાઓને કારણે લોકો કર્મ, પુન: જન્મ, વગેરેમાં માને છે. લોકોના શરીર અને મગજમાં પછી ધર્મગુરુઓ પ્રવેશ કરે છે.

1 Alexander had defeated India.
This is a falsehood.
Alexander had fought battle with Poras (Parvatraj). Poras was a king of a border region of India. Even this victory is not a truth. Alexander’s so-called victory was quite controversial.
2 Alexander made a treaty with defeated Poras.
Alexander was quite cruel and wherever he won the battle he had shown no mercy. There was no reason for Alexander to execute any treaty with Poras. Why had he made a treaty?
3 The truth
In fact Alexander was badly injured in the battle and for that reason he compromised with Poras. Subsequent to that battle, Alexander did not fight any more battle in India. He was aware of the fact that there was an India far bigger than what he fought. Alexander was also aware of the fact that Dhana Nanda was the emperor of India. Alexander and his army wanted to run away from India.
4 Alexander decided to leave India because the Indian hot season was not suitable to the Army.
False:
Alexander was supposed to fight with Dhana Nanda.. Alexander and his army was fully trained and experienced for all seasons
Truth
Before fighting with Poras (which was monsoon) the army of Alexander had a very good experience of very hot summer. The army of Alexander was very much afraid of Indian army. It is also mentioned in the book of associate of Alexander that while approaching India, Alexander had avoided a king to fight with, because that king had 1000 elephants.
5 Poras was defeated due to uncontrollable elephants.
False
One should understand the falsehood that Poras was defeated because of his elephants. Elephants are not suitable in battle if season is rainy season. This is a false hypothesis. Had it been really so, the elephants would had been discontinued. The Indian kings had that much sense as to how to fight a battle. Even Moguls used elephants in India in battle fields.
Truth
Alexander was forced to have compromising treaty to save his own life. A brave and victorious army would decide to go back after a victory (with Poras) is not convincing and not understandable. In fact Alexander was defeated or he could foresee his defeat. That is why he executed treaty with Poras. As per Indian culture and tradition whosoever asks for a mercy, he is granted mercy and he is forgiven.
Some other Facts:
Indian kings used to rule up to Iran till first century.
The successor of Alexander was badly defeated by Chandra Gupta Maurya. The writer has kept mum. Similarly the writer has avoided the fact that Gupta Kings ruled upto Arabia in 5th century.
Kingdoms are kingdoms and civilisations are civilisations. For Indian culture Religion is a philosophy. The religion word is not synonym of Dharma. Dharma means a duty accepted by a person to serve the society.
What should be structure of an ideal society is a subject of vast discussion. Simply by passing derogative remark one cannot discard one way of life.
There are some black ages for every country. After fall of Gupta Dynasty, there were nomads’ aggressions in Iindia. The library of Nalanda had 14 stories building. The books burnt for three months. How much knowledge we might have lost is a matter of imagination.
In spite of all these, the Hindus have the continuity of their belief in philosophy through Vedas civilisation – Saraswati civilisation – Upanishat – Maurya – Gupta – Vijayanagar till date and still they are 80 percent in India, is a matter of re-view of style and basis of thinking for those who condemn Indian way of living.
