ધાર્મીકતા અને નીતીમત્તા

દુનીયામાં પ્રત્યેક માણસને એક ભુમીકા પ્રાપ્ત થયેલી છે. એ ભુમીકા એણે યોગ્ય રીતે નીભાવવાની છે. ‘મનુષ્યસેવા એ જ ઈશ્વરસેવા’ એમ કહેવાયું છે તે કેટલું યથાર્થ છે ! આપણે પોતે જે સ્થાને બેસીએ છીએ, મહીને હજારો રુપીયાનો પગાર વસુલીએ છીએ; ત્યાં કંઈ જ કામ ન કરીએ અને પછી જાણે કે એ પાપનું પ્રાયશ્ચીત્ત કરતા હોઈએ તે રીતે ઈશ્વર તરફ વધુને વધુ ઢળતા જઈએ (સ્થુળ અર્થમાં જ તો…! લોકો જુએ તેમ કથા સાંભળવા જવું, ધર્મસ્થાનની વારમ્વાર મુલાકાત લેવી, નોટબુકમાં (હૃદયમાં નહીં !) ઈષ્ટદેવનું નામ લખવું) તો એવી ભક્તી ઈશ્વર પણ કબુલ રાખતો નથી. દરેક માણસ પોતાને ફાળે આવેલું કામ યોગ્ય રીતે કરે તો દુનીયામાં એક પણ દુ:ખી માણસ ન બચે !
થોડાંક વર્ષો પુર્વે એક મન્દીરમાં જોવા મળેલું એ દૃશ્ય હું હજુ આજે પણ ભુલ્યો નથી. ત્રીસેક વર્ષની એક મહીલા આરતીનો સમય થયો એટલે હાથમાં ઉંચકેલી બે વર્ષની પુત્રીને બાજુમાં ફર્શ પર સુવડાવી, ભગવાનના દર્શન કરવામાં લીન થઈ ગઈ. બાળકીએ જોરજોરથી રડવાનું શરુ કર્યું; તોયે મહીલાએ તેની દરકાર કર્યા વીના હાથ જોડેલા રાખીને ભગવાનની મુર્તીના દર્શન કરવાનું ચાલુ રાખ્યું. આરતી પત્યા પછી વૃદ્ધ પુજારી પેલી યુવતી પાસે આવ્યા અને બોલ્યા, ‘બેટા, આજે તારી તો ઠીક, અમારી પુજા પણ વ્યર્થ ગઈ. મારું ધ્યાન આરતીમાં લાગ્યું જ નહીં; કારણ કે આ બાળકી જોરજોરથી રડતી હતી. મને ભગવાનનો ડર તો છે જ નહીં; પરન્તુ જો એકત્ર થયેલા ભક્તોનો પણ ડર ન હોત તો આરતી અધુરી રહેવા દઈને મેં આ બાળકીને ઉંચકી લીધી હોત. આ બાળક સ્વયમ્ ઈશ્વરનું પ્રતીનીધી છે. અરે ઈશ્વર જ છે ! તું વળી કયા ઈશ્વરને શોધે છે ? યાદ રાખજે દીકરી, આવી પુજા ઈશ્વર મંજુર નથી રાખતા, એ તો ઈચ્છે છે કે પ્રથમ મેં તમને સોંપેલું કામ નીષ્ઠાથી પતાવો અને પછી સમય બચે તો મારી પાસે આવો.’
કોઈ એક મહત્ત્વના સ્થાને ખુરશી પકડીને બેસી ગયેલો માણસ, પોતાનું કર્તવ્ય યોગ્ય રીતે ન બજાવે અથવા કામ કરવામાં વીલમ્બ દાખવે તો કેટલા બધા માણસોને પીડા ભોગવવી પડે છે, તેનો હીસાબ માંડવા જેવો છે. ટ્રેન આવવાનો સમય થઈ ગયો છે. લાઈન લાંબી છે. તમારી આગળ હજુ બાર તેર ઉતારુઓ ઉભેલા છે અને અચાનક ટીકીટ આપનારનો ‘ટી–બ્રેક’ શરુ થાય છે ! એક એક સેકન્ડનો વીલમ્બ તમને અકળાવે છે અને સાહેબ તો નીરાંતે ચાનો સ્વાદ માણી રહ્યા છે ! (એ તમને છેવટે વગર ટીકીટે મુસાફરી કરવાની ફરજ પાડશે !) ચાલુ નોકરીએ ફરજ પર હોઈએ ત્યારે મન્દીરે દર્શન કરવા જવું કે નમાજ પઢવા જવું કેટલું યોગ્ય છે ? આવી સેવા કે બન્દગી ઈશ્વરને કે અલ્લાહને કદી ગંવારા હોતી નથી. આ તબક્કે તર્ક કે દલીલ કે અન્ધ–ભક્તીના પ્રવાહમાં તણાઈ જઈને કોઈને પ્રસ્તુત રજુઆત ખોટી ઠેરવવાની ઈચ્છા થઈ આવે એવું બને. એવે વખતે એટલું જ વીચારવાનું કે કોઈનો એકનો એક દીકરો અકસ્માતમાં મરણતોલ રીતે ઘવાયેલો હોય કે કોઈની પુત્રી પ્રસુતીની પીડા ભોગવી રહી હોય, શરીરમાં ઝેર ફેલાવવાની શક્યતા હોય અને જાણવા મળે કે ડૉક્ટર સાહેબ પુજામાં બેઠા છે કે નમાજ પઢવા ગયા છે, તો શું થાય? માણસ ફરજ પર હોય ત્યારે જો એ આ પ્રકારના ક્રીયાકાંડમાં અટવાઈને માણસની સેવા કરવાનું ચુકી જાય તો એ પ્રકારની ભક્તી કદી માણસના ખાતે જમા થાય કે ?
સપાટી પરનું અવલોકન એમ દર્શાવે છે કે દીવસે દીવસે માણસોનો ઈશ્વર પ્રત્યેનો પ્રેમ વધતો જાય છે ! કથાવાર્તા, ભજન–કીર્તન, હોમ–હવન, તીર્થયાત્રા શું શું નથી થતું ! નીરન્તર કંઈ ને કંઈ ચાલતું રહે છે. શું માણસમાં આધ્યાત્મીક વૃત્તીનો વીકાસ થયો છે ? નીતી અને મુલ્યો માટેનો પ્રેમ વધ્યો છે ? એ વધારે પ્રામાણીક, વધારે સહૃદયી અને સેવાભાવી બન્યો છે ? ના, એવું લાગતું નથી. પોતે જ્યાં બેઠો છે ત્યાં કંઈ કામ ન કરવું, પ્રજાનાં ન્યાયી કામો હોય તેને પણ વીલમ્બમાં નાંખવાં અને એવાં કામો જલદી પતાવવા માટે મોટી રકમની લાંચ માંગવી આ બધું કર્યા પછી પથ્થર એટલા દેવ પુજવાનો અને જાતજાતના વાર–ઉપવાસ કરવાનો કોઈ અર્થ ખરો ? એરણની ચોરી કરીને સોયનું દાન કરવાથી આપણે કોને ભ્રમમાં નાંખી શકીએ? પોતાને તો નહીં જ !
સરકારી કચેરીઓમાં, કલેક્ટરની ઓફીસમાં, શાળા, કૉલેજ કે યુનીવર્સીટીમાં, બેન્કમાં કે રેલવેની ટીકીટબારીઓ પર સર્વત્ર ‘વર્ક–એથીક્સ’નો અભાવ જોવા મળે છે, જે સામાન્ય નાગરીકોને પારાવાર તકલીફોમાં મુકે છે. થોડીક જ મીનીટોમાં પતી શકે એવાં કામો માટે પણ બીચારો માણસ વર્ષો સુધી રાહ જોતો રહે છે અને એને આપવામાં આવે છે મુદત(ચાર દીવસ પછી તપાસ કરી જજો. આવતા મહીને આવજો, પતાવી આપીશું). પેન્શન મેળવવા માટે, ટીકીટનું રીઝર્વેશન કરાવવા માટે, રેશનીંગનો કાર્ડ મેળવવા માટે કે પછી બાળકનું એડ્મીશન મેળવવા કાજે એણે કેટકેટલું ભટકવું પડે છે ! બાળકને સારી શાળામાં પ્રવેશ મળે તેની ચીન્તામાં વાલીના કેટલાયે મહીનાઓ ઉંધ વગરના વીતે છે. પેન્શન માટે માણસે વર્ષો સુધી ગાંધીનગર (‘ગાંધી’–નગર, વૉટ અ જોક !) ધક્કા ખાવા પડે છે, ત્યાર પછીયે પૈસા ખવડાવ્યા વીના એનું કામ થતું નથી. કહેવાય છે કે ગાંધીનગરના જે અધીકારી સૌથી વધારે ભ્રષ્ટાચારી છે તે સૌથી વધુ ધાર્મીક (?) વૃત્તીના પણ છે ! એને ત્યાં રોજ કંઈક ને કંઈક નીમીત્તે કથા–વાર્તા, રામાયણ–પારાયણ, પ્રસાદ (પ્રજાના અવસાદમાંથી જન્મેલો !) વગેરે ચાલ્યા જ કરે છે. અઠવાડીયામાં પાંચ દીવસ સાહેબ ટુર પર હોય છે. ટુર પર એટલે ક્યાં ? અમ્બાજી, ડાકોર, શીરડી, શ્રીનાથજી, દ્વારકા એ તમામ સ્થળો પર તેઓ સરકારની કારમાં સહકુટુમ્બ જાય છે. (યાત્રાધામોમાં સરકારી ગાડીમાં પત્ની અને બાળકો સાથે દર્શનાર્થે પધારેલા એક અધીકારીને તો તમે પણ જોયા હતા ને ? હું એમની જ વાત કરી રહ્યો છું !)
જે વ્યક્તી પોતે કોઈ એક સ્થાન પર બેસીને ની:સ્વાર્થ ભાવે નીષ્ઠાપુર્વક પોતાનું કામ કરે છે, પોતાની ફરજ અદા કરે છે એણે ત્યાર પછી પોતાના દેહના કે આત્માના કલ્યાણ માટે કંઈ જ કરવાની જરુર રહેતી નથી. જેમણે ‘જનસેવા એ જ પ્રભુસેવા’ના મંત્રને પોતાના જીવનમાં ચરીતાર્થ કર્યો છે એમણે મન્દીરમાં કે મસ્જીદમાં જવાની શી જરુર ? એ જ્યાં બેઠો છે તે સ્થળ તીર્થધામ છે. એ ત્યાં બેઠા બેઠા પ્રભુસેવા કરી રહ્યો છે. બેન્કમાં કે સરકારી કચેરીમાં કોઈ પ્રકારની માનસીક યાતના ભોગવ્યા વગર થોડીક મીનીટોમાં જ પોતાનું કામ પતાવીને બહાર નીકળતો માણસ જે આશીર્વાદ આપે છે, તેની તોલે તો ભગવાનના આશીર્વાદ પણ ફીક્કા સાબીત થાય ! વળી જ્યારે આ પ્રકારે વીના વીધ્ને અને વીના વીલમ્બે, ની:સ્વાર્થભાવે કામ થાય છે ત્યારે કામ કરનાર અને કરાવનાર બન્ને ઉંડા પરીતોષની લાગણી અનુભવે છે. જેણે આ પ્રકારનો આત્મસંતોષ મેળવ્યો છે તેણે ત્યાર પછી કોઈ ઈષ્ટદેવનું સ્મરણ કરવાની જરુરીયાત ઉદ્ ભવતી નથી. કામને પુજા ગણનારા માણસોને લીધે આ સમાજ ટકી રહ્યો છે. કામને પુજા ગણનારા માણસોની આ સમાજને વધારેમાં વધારે જરુર છે. પુરો પગાર લઈ કામ નહીં કરતા માણસોએ, ફરજ પર મોડા આવી વહેલા ભાગી જતા માણસોએ, ફરજ દરમ્યાન ઈષ્ટદેવની પુજા કરવા ગાળીયું કાઢતા માણસોએ અને પોતાની ખુરશી પર બેઠાં બેઠાં ઉંઘ ખેંચી લેતા માણસોએ સમાજને જેટલું નુકસાન પહોંચાડ્યું છે તેટલું નુકસાન બીજા કોઈએ પહોંચાડ્યું નથી. બાય ધ વે, ફરજ દરમ્યાન ઉંઘવામાં પણ ઉંચો, તગડો પગાર મળતો હોય તેવા દેશમાં જન્મ આપવા માટે આપણે કુદરતનો (ઈશ્વરનો અને અલ્લાહનો) વીશેષપણે અલાયદો આભાર માનવો જોઈએ એવું નથી લાગતું ?

ખૂબ સરસ સંદેશ. સાથે સાથે ફરજનું પણ વર્ગીકરણ કર્વું રહ્યું. નૈતિક ફરજ, હૈયાસૂઝથી સ્વીકારાયલી ફરજ, ન ગમતી માથે લદાયલી ફરજ વિગેરે સમજીને અપનાવાય તો જ વ્યક્તિ અને સમાજને લાભ થાય.

સુંદર સમજવા જેવો લેખ
માણસને માટે સેવા એ જ મંદિર છે .
સ્વામી વિવેકાનંદના કહેવા પ્રમાણે ભગવાન મંદિરમાં નહી પણ ગરીબોમાં
વસતો હોય છે .ગરીબોની સેવા એ જ પ્રભુ સેવા છે .

What a nice and truthful analysis. Yes, I fully agree with you. After reading your lovely article I really want to confess that I felt guilty myself. I worked for more than 40 years for Western Railway Head office in Mumbai and did all that you mentioned in your article. Let me share one interesting argument I used to do like others. We used to say at that time, “Sarkaari naukri ma pagaar shun male chhe?” But I conveniently forgot that I accepted the job with full knowledge what I’ll get, right?
Once again I thank you for your this eye opener article.and with people in general and govt servants in particular learn from it. Now, that they get very good salaries they have no ground to not to to do their work dutifully.
Right now I am in Toronto (Canada) and currently Sr. Editor of Hindi Abroad weekly newspaper that has more than 50,000 reader every week.
Thanks to internet I read Gujaratmitra online everyday. I also read your articles. Dear Mr. Saral Hindi,
Good idea, indeed. In 1994 when I was in Mumbai I promoted Urdu through Hindi (Devnagari) lipi. I was resident editor of Jadeed Markaz (Important centre). This weekly is still being published from Delhi, Kanpur and Mumbai in Urdu and Hindi languages. My efforts and try became so popular that there are a number of Urdu newspapers that are being published in devnagari lipi.
If toe the idea the question is how many Gujarati will read Hindi? How many Hindi speaking are interested o learn Gujarati? This is a costly affair. Who is going to foot the bills? As far as Urdu is concerned many Urdu readers forgot Urdu lip but they loved the language and therefore my experiment was successful.
However, I can still go ahead if someone wants to finance. At Hindi Abroad I am working and not the owner.

જેવું લખે, ઉપદેશ આપે એવું જ જીવન જીવનારા આદરણીય શશીકાંતભાઈના વિચારો ગમ્યા. ગુજરાતમિત્રમાં દર મંગળ અને બુધવારે તથા સંદેશમાં દર ગુરુવારે (ગુરૂવાણી) નિયમિતપણે પ્રગટ થતી એમની કોલમે એમનો બહોળો વાચક–ચાહક વર્ગ ઉભો કર્યો છે.
કામ–ફરજ પ્રત્યેની નિષ્ઠા, અન્યો પ્રત્યે દયા–સમભાવ વગેરે ધર્મ છે, કમનસીબે આપણે ક્રિયાકાંડો, ધર્મસ્થાનોએ જવું..વગેરેને જ ધર્મ માની લીધો છે. ગોવિંદભાઈને વિનંતી કે,શશીકાંતભાઈના આવા પ્રકારના વધુ લેખો મૂકશો તો ગમશે.

ડો. શશાન્ક્ભાઈ નો લેખ સારો છે. આ લેખ ભારત ને વધુ લાગુ પડે છે. બાકી
ચાઈના કે જાપાન કે જર્મની કે જ્યાં લોકો ની કામ પરત્વે ની નિષ્ઠા અને દેશદાઝ
છે ત્યાં કઈ કહેવું પડતું નથી.ત્યાના કાયદા અને દેશ પ્રત્યેની વફાદારી લોકો ને
બેઈમાન બનાવતા રોકે છે.આપણે પહેલા મોગલોના ત્યારબાદ અંગ્રેજોના અને હવે
ઇટાલી બહેનના ગુલામો છીએ એટલે આવા બહાર ના શાશકો ની નેતાગીરી થી
આપના દેશ માં વફાદારી ક્યાંથી આવવાની તે એક મોટો પ્રશ્ન છે. ઈશ્વર મતલબ
કુદરત તો છે પણ સરકારી કર્મચારિયો એક બાજુ વોટ બેંક ના હાથ છે તો બીજી બાજુ
આપના નેતાઓ જ ભ્રષ્ટ છે અને આખું તંત્ર સદી ગયું હોય ત્યાં બિચારા ઈશ્વેર ને
ક્યાં દોષ દેવો ?? શાશકો જ ચોર છે તો પછી સેનાપતિ પાસે કેવી અપેક્ષ રખાય ?

બહુ સરસ શિખામણ છે. દરેક સરકારી કર્મચારીએ જીવનમાં ઉતારવી જોઇએ.મારી સાથે કામકરતા કર્મચારીઓને હું આટલીજ શીખ આપતો પણ તેમના ગળે ન ઉતરતી પણ જ્યારે તેમને જવાબદારી વાળી જગ્યા મળતી ત્યારે તેમને મારી સલાહની કીંમત સમજાતી.ભ્રષ્ટાચારીઓના કોઠે આ વાત ક્યાંથી ઉતરે? એટલે તો શ્રી.ન.મો. સરકારીઓને ગમતા નથી.

ગામડાંના ગરીબ માણસ માટે રેશનીંગ કાર્ડ બહુ મહત્વનું હોય છે.
આ કાર્ડ માટે ગામના સરપંચ, તલાટી અને પુરવઠા અધીકારી સુધીના ગરીબને ધક્કા ખવડાવે છે.

Religions have Borrowed these Rules and Asks People to “Pray GOD, Put Dakshina for Pujaris and Get to Heaven”.
Religions have become The Biggest Business in the Present Day World. It has pervaded Hypocrisies and Rich Men’s Businesses. “Simple Living and High Thinking” is Religion. There is No NEED to Build Temples by Begging Millions from Innocent Believers and Put IDOLS in Temples to Worship. BLIND FAITH is NOT Religion. An Honest Day’s Work is Practicing Religion. GOD has Nothing to Do with Human Beings Work. He Does Not Exist any where. It is an Image created by some CROOKS, to ROB People.
GURUS, PUNDITS and LEADERS are Commission Agents. They get their Pennies for Looting The Ignorant Poor. In Foreign Lands also, these Agents have Expanded their Net Work of ‘Robbing the Poor to Pay Paul”. Rationalists are the Only Group that Does NOT Believe in this `Make Believe’ Religions. Let us Keep Away from This Entire Net-Work and Expose their Wasteful Hypocrisies. Have a Peaceful and Healthy NEW YEAR.

Really very interesting Lekh Dr. Sashikantbhai! You are quite right everywhere all over the world people busy to find the God, but they don’t know that God is in every live creation. So as you said first your duty, first to bring peace in your home and do Jan Seva which is Prabhu Seva. Or Jagat Kayan with what ever pure knowledge we got, as you wrote this Lekh with your knowledge. Than not need to go here and there to pray or find the God. God is in every human being. I am a journalist, translator, writer writing articles, critic, event organiser and a motivating speaker. When I say Motivating Speaker I not only lecture but do it with my own action. At the age of 71 I recently did Diploma in Business Administration (July 2012).with 85%.

ફરજ પરસ્તી સમજાવતો લેખ વાંચી ને વર્તનમાં ઉતારવા જેવો છે. જો સરકારી કે અર્ધ સરકારી ઓફિસમાં આ પ્રમાણે કામ થાય તો દેશ કેટલો આગળ આવે. ? કામ ચોરી કરીને કે લાંચ લઈને કરેલા કામના પાપ ધોવા મંદિરમાં જવું જ પડે.

Thank you Dr. Shashikantbhai. It is very true. This is not happening in our country only. I live in Canada for almost 40 years and work for big oil company for last 33 years. Some workers have 35-40 years service. They still spend more time how to beat the company, not to do any work or read the news paper. How to take more sick time and take company benefits. One of our hindu brother from Trinidad, he was a very religious fellow, believeing in Stay Saibaba. He used to have Havan Puja and Bhajan Kirtan every weekend. ( I never attended his Bhajan Kirtan) In 30 years service, may be he came to work 10 years. He claimed he was disable. He was able to travel Banglore twice a year, drive all over Canada to spread Satya Sai Message. Satya Sai is do your duty sincerely, Employer is feeding you and your family. It is true, God is with you all the time and he is watching you. God is not in temple or church, God is in all living species. Thanks again.
