– જો લોકો ધર્મનો સાચો અર્થ સમજતા થાય અને એમાંથી અન્ધશ્રદ્ધા કાઢી નાખે તો કોઈ વાંધો જ ન રહે !
રાજસ્થાનના સવાઈ માધોપુર જીલ્લાનાં ગંગાપુર ગામમાં બનેલી એક ઘટનાએ સમગ્ર દેશનું ધ્યાન ખેચ્યું છે. ત્યાં કંચનસીંહ રાજપુતનું કુટુમ્બ રહેતું હતું. કુટુમ્બમાં નવ સભ્યો હતા. કંચનસીંહને આપણાં પૌરાણીક પાત્રો રામ અને શંકરમાં અપાર શ્રદ્ધા હતી. આમ તો આપણા દેશમાં મોટાભાગના લોકો શ્રદ્ધાળુ છે; પણ શ્રદ્ધા ક્યારેક અન્ધશ્રદ્ધામાં ફેરવાઈ જાય છે. તેઓ રાત દીવસ શંકર ભગવાનને મળવાનાં સ્વપ્નાં જોતા હતા. આ સ્વપ્નું ધીમે ધીમે દીવાસ્વપ્ન બની ગયું અને દીવસના પણ જાગૃત અવસ્થામાં કંચનસીંહ શંકર ભગવાનને જોતા થઈ ગયા. એમના કુટુમ્બ સમક્ષ એ આખો દીવસ શંકર-પાર્વતીની જ વાતો કરતા. એવામાં ટી.વી. ઉપર ‘મહાદેવ’ ટી.વી. શ્રેણી શરુ થઈ અને કંચનસીંહને ભાવતું મળી ગયું, એમનું આખું કુટુમ્બ દરરોજ રાત્રે આ સીરીયલ જોવા માંડ્યા. સીરીયલમાં પાર્વતી શંકરને આજીજી કરે છે. શંકર પહેલાં તો પાર્વતીને ધુત્કારી કાઢે છે; પણ પાર્વતી સાચા દીલથી શંકર ભગવાનની આરાધના કરે છે અને તપ કરે છે. અન્તે શંકર ભગવાન પ્રસન્ન થયા અને પાર્વતીને અપનાવી લીધી. બન્નેનાં લગ્ન થાય છે.
કંચનસીંહનું કુટુમ્બ પણ અન્ધશ્રદ્ધાળુ છે એનાં વૃદ્ધા બાથી માંડીને એની પત્ની તથા બાળકો એનો પડ્યો બોલ ઝીલે છે. એના બા કહે છે કે હું મરી જાઉં તો શંકર ભગવાનની સાથે તારા પીતાને પણ મળી શકું. એટલે આ નીર્વાણમાં મનેય સાથે રાખજે. પુત્રી પણ કહે છે કે મારે પણ પાર્વતીજીનાં દર્શન કરવાં છે; એટલે આપણે સામુહીક રીતે સ્વર્ગે સીધાવવાનું છે. કંચનસીંહ કહે છે કે મેં ત્રણ વખત આપઘાતની કોશીશ કરી; પણ એમાં નીષ્ફળ ગયો. એક વખત તો શંકરના મન્દીરમાં જઈને શીવલીંગ ઉપર મારા રક્તનો અભીષેક કર્યો; પણ તોય હું જીવતો રહ્યો. એકવાર મેં ઈન્જેક્શનમાં હવા ભેળવી લીધી; છતાં હું મર્યો નહીં. હવે નક્કી આપણે સૌએ સામુહીક પુરુષાર્થ કરવો જ પડશે. આમ તો દરરોજ સ્વપ્નામાં હું શંકર-પાર્વતીને જોતો જ હોઉં છું. હવે આપણે એમના પ્રત્યક્ષ દર્શન કરવા છે. કંચનસીંહે સ્વપ્નામાં શંકર ભગવાન સાથે થયેલી વાતચીતનું વર્ણન પણ કર્યું.
આ પછી કુટુમ્બે હવન શરુ કર્યો. એમાં ઘી, જવ, તલ ઉપરાન્ત જાતજાતની વસ્તુઓ હોમી દીધી. કંચનસીંહ ક્યાંકથી તાન્ત્રીક વીધી શીખી આવેલા. એ પણ અજમાવી જોઈ; પણ એની પણ કોઈ અસર ન થઈ. અન્તે એમણે તૈયાર કરાવેલા લાડુ લાવવાનું કહ્યું એમણે ખુલાસો કર્યો કે આ લાડુમાં સાઈનાઈડ ભેળવ્યું છે, એ ખાઈને જરુર આપણે મોક્ષ મેળવીશું. લાડુ પીરસાયા, બધાએ એ ખાધા અને એક પછી એક પાંચેય જણાં ઢળી પડ્યાં. ત્રણ જણાં બચી ગયાં. એમણે ત્રણેયને તાત્કાલીક હૉસ્પીટલમાં ખસેડ્યા. અત્યારે એ ત્રણેય જણા હૉસ્પીટલમાં જીવનમરણ વચ્ચે ઝોલાં ખાઈ રહ્યાં છે. દરમ્યાન કંચનસીંહનો મનસુબો પામી ગયેલો એનો ભાઈ ઘરેથી ભાગી ગયો. કંચનસીંહ એને સ્ટેશને ગાડીમાં બેસાડીને પાછા આવી ગયા.
આ સમગ્ર કીસ્સો ચોંકાવનારો છે. આ કીસ્સો ટી.વી. ઉપરની સીરીયલ જોઈને બન્યો. મતલબ કે ટી.વી. ૨૧મી સદીનું પ્રબળ અસરકારક માધ્યમ છે. તો પછી પ્રશ્ન એ છે કે અન્ધકાર યુગને યાદ કરાવે એવો આ કીસ્સો કેમ બન્યો ? પડોશીઓના કહેવા મુજબ કંચનસીંહ છેલ્લા કેટલાક સમયથી અલુફ એટલે કે એકલા પડી ગયેલા. સમાજ સાથેનો સમ્બન્ધ એમણે તોડી નાંખેલો. આખો દીવસ કુટુંબ સાથે જ ગાળતા. આ સમગ્ર ઘટના એટલા માટે બહાર આવી કે એમણે પોતે એક વીડીયો કૅમેરો મુકીને એનું રેકૉર્ડીંગ કરેલું. ઘટના પછી આ રેકૉર્ડીંગ પોલીસના હાથમાં આવ્યું અને પોલીસના હાથમાંથી એક ટી.વી. ચેનલના હાથમાં આવી ગયું. ટી.વી. ચેનલે આ રેકૉર્ડીંગ સતત બે કલાક બતાવ્યું અને પરીણામે દેશભરમાં એની ખબર પડી ગઈ. એ દીવસે તો બીજી કોઈ ચેનલ ઉપર એની નોંધ ન લેવાઈ; પણ બીજે દીવસે બધી ચેનલોએ એ સમાચારને ચમકાવ્યા.
ચેનલે બે કલાક ચર્ચા ચલાવી એમાં ચાર સાધુસન્તોને હાજર રાખેલા. ઉપરાન્ત જબલપુરના દેશમુખ નામના એક રૅશનાલીસ્ટ મીત્રનો પણ વારંવાર અભીપ્રાય લેતા. દેશમુખે સ્પષ્ટ શબ્દમાં કહ્યું કે : ‘આવી ઘટનાઓ ધર્મને લીધે જ બને છે. આપણા દેશમાંથી ધર્મ નાબુદ થાય અને આપણે વૈજ્ઞાનીક અભીગમ અપનાવીએ તો આવું બને જ નહીં.’ સાધુઓનું કહેવું હતું કે : ‘આવી ઘટનાઓ ધર્મને લીધે નહીં; પણ ધર્મના ખોટા અર્થઘટનને કારણે બનતી હોય છે.’ એક સાધુએ તો ત્યાં સુધી કહ્યું કે : ‘આજના કેટલાક કથાકારો પોતાની કથાઓમાં ચમત્કારને જોડી દે છે.’ એક સાધુએ તો કથામાં ત્યાં સુધી કહેલું કે : ‘શંકર-પાર્વતીના વીવાહ વખતે હું ત્યાં હાજર હતો.’ દરેક વખતે રૅશનાલીસ્ટ મીત્રનું કહેવું હતું કે : ‘ધાર્મીક કથાઓ થાય છે એટલે જ એના સાચા કે ખોટા અર્થઘટનનો પ્રશ્ન ઉદ્ ભવે છે. ટી.વી. ઉપર પણ આવી ધાર્મીક સીરીયલો બંધ કરવી જોઈએ અને કથાકારોને પણ ફરજ પાડવી જોઈએ કે ધાર્મીક કથાઓમાં વૈજ્ઞાનીક અભીગમ અપનાવો.’ મોરારીબાપુ છેલ્લે છેલ્લે આમ કરતા થયા છે એની પણ નોંધ લેવી ઘટે.
પાછળથી પોલીસે જણાવ્યું હતું કે પરીવારના વડા કંચનસીંહ અન્ધશ્રદ્ધામાં ખુબ જ વીશ્વાસ ધરાવતા હતા. ગંગાપુરમાં નાગીયા કોલોની ખાતે એમનું મકાન છે. કંચનસીંહ અવારનવાર પોતાના ઘરમાં હવન કરાવતા હતા. એમને શીવજીમાં અતુટ શ્રદ્ધા હતી. મહાદેવ સીરીયલ જોઈને એમની શ્રદ્ધા મજબુત બની. એમણે બધાએ શીવજી પ્રગટ થાય એ માટે લોહીથી સ્નાન પણ કર્યું હતું અને ભગવાનને આહુતી આપી હતી. એમણે લોહીથી પાંચસો વાર અભીષેક કર્યો અને એકત્રીસસો તીલક કર્યાં; છતાં શીવજી પ્રગટ ન થયા એટલે ઝેર ગટગટાવ્યું. હવનમાં એમનાં પત્ની નીલમ, માતા ભગવતીદેવી, પુત્ર પ્રદ્યુમ્ન, દીપસીંહ અને દીપસીંહના પુત્ર લવસીંહનો ભોગ લેવાઈ ગયો. દીપસીંહ દીલ્હીથી હવનમાં ભાગ લેવા ખાસ આવેલા. તેઓ દીલ્હી એમ.એન.સી.માં નોકરી કરે છે. રશ્મી પોતે દીલ્હીમાં બી.એ.માં ભણે છે; પણ આવી અન્ધશ્રદ્ધામાં માનતી ન હોવાથી હવનના થોડા દીવસ પહેલાં જ દીલ્હી જતી રહી હતી એની સાથે એનો ભાઈ પ્રદીપ પણ દીલ્હી જતો રહ્યો.
છેલ્લાં ઘણાં વરસોથી આપણે ત્યાં ધાર્મીક કથાકારો પણ વધી ગયા છે. આ કથાકારો જાહેરમાં સરકારને પડકાર ફેંકે છે. અત્યારે મહારાષ્ટ્રમાં મરાઠવાડા વીસ્તારમાં ભીષણ દુષ્કાળ પ્રવર્તે છે અને પાણીની કારમી તંગી વર્તાય છે. આમ છતાં આશારામ બાપુએ નાગપુરમાં હજારો લીટર પાણીથી હોળી ખેલી. જ્યારે મહારાષ્ટ્ર સરકારે આની સામે લાલ આંખ કરી ત્યારે આશારામ બાપુએ ગર્જના કરી કે હું ગમે ત્યારે અને ગમે ત્યાં ચમત્કાર કરીને ભારે વરસાદ વરસાવી શકું છું. આપણે એમને પુછી શકીએ કે જો આમ જ હોય તો તમે મહારાષ્ટ્ર અને સૌરાષ્ટ્રમાં પીવાના પાણીની કારમી તંગી છે ત્યાં વરસાદ કેમ વરસાવતા નથી ?
ન્યુટન ઉપરાંત આઈનસ્ટાઈન જેવા વૈજ્ઞાનીકોએ કરેલા પુરુષાર્થને પરીણામે પશ્ચીમની પ્રજામાં વૈજ્ઞાનીક અભીગમ આવી ગયો છે. એની શરુઆત ગેલીલીયો, કોપરનીક્સ, સ્પીનોઝા જેવા વૈજ્ઞાનીકોએ કરેલી એમણે અનેક મહાન સત્યો શોધી કાઢ્યાં અને દર્શાવ્યું કે પૃથ્વી ચોરસ નહીં; પણ ગોળ છે. બીજુ સત્ય એ બહાર આવ્યું કે સુર્ય પૃથ્વીની આસપાસ નહીં; પણ પૃથ્વી સુર્યની આસપાસ ફરે છે. આ નવાં સત્યો શોધવા બદલ આ વૈજ્ઞાનીકોને જેલમાં પુરવામાં આવ્યા. કોઈની આંખો ફોડી નાંખવામાં આવી, તો કોઈને જીવતાં બાળી નાંખવામાં આવ્યા; પણ યુરોપની પ્રજાની ખુબી જુઓ કે પોપ પોલે અનેક વખત એ વૈજ્ઞાનીકો ઉપર થયેલાં જુલમો બદલ પ્રજાની માફી માંગી છે. ગ્રહો અને ઉપગ્રહોની તથા આકાશગંગાની શોધખોળ પણ ચાલુ જ છે. નેપચ્યુન અને પ્લુટો પછી બીજા અનેક ગ્રહો શોધાઈ ચુક્યા છે. આમ જ્યોતીષશાસ્ત્રનો પાયો જ ખળભળી ઉઠ્યો છે. છતાં આપણે બધાં કામ મુહુર્ત જોઈને જ કરીએ છીએ. મોટાભાગનાં લગ્નો પણ કુંડળી અને ગ્રહો મુજબ થાય છે. કોઈને સુઝતું નથી કે જો કુંડળી મુજબ લગ્નો થતાં હોય અને સાચી રીતે થતાં હોય તો દેશમાં એક પણ છુટાછેડાનો કીસ્સો બનવો જ ન જોઈએ; પણ આપણે ત્યાં આવા કીસ્સા બને છે. આપણે સમજવું જોઈએ કે સુર્ય, ચંદ્ર અને બીજા ગ્રહો અને ઉપગ્રહો ધુળ અને ખડકો સીવાય કાંઈ નથી. એમની ગતી અને પરીભ્રમણ ગુરુત્વાકર્ષણના આધારે ચાલે છે. આપણા ભવીષ્ય ઉપર એની કોઈ અસર નથી. લગ્નના રીવાજ દેશે દેશે જુદા જુદા હોય છે. પશ્ચીમના દેશોમાં છુટાછેડાનું ચલણ સામાન્ય થઈ ગયું છે. ત્યારે આપણે ત્યાં એવું નથી. આમાં ગ્રહોનો પ્રશ્ન ક્યાં આવ્યો ? આપણે ગ્રહોને દૈવીક તત્ત્વ સાથે જોડી દઈએ છીએ. હજારો વર્ષ પહેલાં આ સાચું હતું; પણ આજના જમાનામાં નાગને દેવ માનીને એની પુજા કરીએ એ એક જાતનો વહેમ જ છે.
બ્રહ્માંડમાં દીશા નથી કે સમય પણ નથી. આ બધું પૃથ્વી, ચંદ્ર અને સુર્યની ગતી મુજબ નક્કી થાય છે. ભારતમાં દીવસ હોય છે ત્યારે અમેરીકામાં રાત હોય છે. સમય અને દીશા તો માણસે પોતાની અનુકુળતા માટે શોધી કાઢ્યાં છે.
જો લોકો ધર્મનો સાચો અર્થ સમજતા થાય અને એમાંથી અન્ધશ્રદ્ધા કાઢી નાખે તો કોઈ વાંધો જ ન રહે. પૌરાણીક કથાઓમાંથી પણ એનો મર્મ સમજીને ચમત્કારો કાઢી નાખવા જોઈએ. ચમત્કારો એ પ્રતીક છે. શ્રીકૃષ્ણનું સુદર્શન ચક્ર હોય કે શ્રીરામનું બાણ હોય; આ બધાં એમની શક્તીનાં પ્રતીક હતાં. એને એ રીતે જ સમજવાં જોઈએ. ગુલઝારે મીરાંબાઈના જીવન ઉપરથી ‘મીરાં’ નામનું ચલચીત્ર બનાવ્યું ત્યારે સીફતથી મીરાંના જીવનના બધા ચમત્કારોને કાઢી નાખ્યા હતા. મોટાભાગની ગુજરાતી ફીલ્મો ચમત્કારોથી ભરેલી હોય છે. એને લીધે સૌરાષ્ટ્રનો સમાજ અન્ધશ્રદ્ધામાં વીશ્વાસ રાખતો થઈ ગયો છે. સૌરાષ્ટ્રની અઢળક લોકકથાઓમાં ચમત્કારોના અનેક પ્રસંગો પડેલા છે. એને રૅશનાલીઝમની ચાળણીમાંથી ચાળીને પથ્ય બનાવવી જોઈએ. અત્યારે આપણો મહાપ્રશ્ન વીજ્ઞાન અને ટેકનૉલૉજીની પ્રગતીનો છે. દેશના ૭૦ ટકા લોકો ગામડાંમાં વસે છે. ગામડાંની પ્રજામાં જાગૃતી લાવીએ તો અનેક જીન્દગીઓ બચી જાય.

‘અભીવ્યક્તી’ 
સરસ લેખ પસંદ કર્યો ગોવીંદભાઈ. ધન્યવાદ અને આભાર આપનો તથા ડૉ. યાસીનભાઈનો.
આ સમાચાર વાંચવામાં આવેલા. મેં લગભગ વીસેક વર્ષ સુધી અહીં ધાર્મીક વીધીઓ કરી છે, પણ એની પાછળનો આશય કોઈ પણ પ્રકારની અપેક્ષા વીના માત્ર સમાજની સેવા કરવાનો હતો, અને કોઈ લોભીયા સમાજનું વહેમો થકી શોષણ ન કરે એ હતો. જો કે આજે હવે પરીસ્થીતી બદલાઈ ગઈ છે. સમાજ ત્યાંનો ત્યાં જ છે. શોષણ શરુ થઈ ગયું છે. હોંશીયાર અને ચાલાક લોકોએ કબજો જમાવ્યો છે, અને લોકોની જુનવાણી, બીનવૈજ્ઞાનીક માન્યતા અને અંધશ્રદ્ધાનો ગેરલાભ ઉઠાવવાનું ભરપુર ચાલે છે- અહીં પરદેશમાં પણ. કેમ કે લોકોના અજ્ઞાનનો કોઈ પાર નથી. ગણપતીના દુધ પીવાની અફવા સમયે હું ધાર્મીક વીધીઓ કરાવતો હતો. અહીં વેલીંગ્ટનમાં પણ એ તુત ચાલેલું. તે અરસામાં એક જગ્યાએ મારી એક વીધી ચાલુ હતી, ત્યારે મેં જાહેરમાં કહેલું કે એમાં કશું જ તથ્ય નથી. પાછળથી દીવસો બાદ એ દુધ પીવાની પોલ ખુલ્લી પડી હતી.

શ્રી યાસીન દલાલની વાત તદ્દ્ન સાચી, સરળ અને અનેકને માટે માર્ગદર્શક છે. ધર્મ એ આંતરિક ભાવના છે. અને પૌરાણિક વાતો, વાર્તાઓ હજારો વર્ષો પહેલા રચાયલું અજોડ સાહિત્ય છે. એને ધર્મ સાથે સેળભેળ કરવામાં આવ્યું છે.

યાસીનભાઈએ ઘણી સરસ વાત કરી.
વાસ્તવમાં ચમત્કાર જેવું કશું હોતું નથી. લોકોને જે ન સમજાય તેને ચમત્કાર ગણી લેતા હોય છે. અંધશ્રદ્ધા એટલે પોતાની બુદ્ધિને પોતાના હાથે તાળા મારીને ચાવી ધુતારાઓને સોંપવી.
બુદ્ધ, મહાવીર અને અન્ય સત્ય શોધકોયે એક પ્રકારના વૈજ્ઞાનિકો જ હતા. વૈજ્ઞાનિકો જેમ બાહ્ય પ્રકૃતિ પર સંશોધન કરે છે તેમ તેમણે તેમની જાત પર પ્રયોગ કર્યો. બાહ્ય પ્રકૃતિના પ્રયોગોના તારણો સમાજને સામુહિક રીતે ઉપયોગી નીવડી શકે છે જ્યારે જાત પર પ્રયોગ દરેકે જાતે કરીને અનુભવ મેળવવા પડે છે. જાત પરના પ્રયોગો પછી થયેલા દરેક અનુભવો સમજાવી શકાય તેવા નથી હોતા અને દરેકને ચિત્ર વિચિત્ર અનુભવ થતાં હોય છે તેથી સાધના દ્વારા કેવા કેવા પરીણામો આવશે તેની સૂત્રાત્મક અને વિવરણાત્મક નોંધો શાસ્ત્રમાં મળે છે જે સાધકને માર્ગદર્શન પુરુ પાડી શકે. બાકી પુરાણોની કથા વાર્તાઓ અને અંધશ્રદ્ધા દ્વારા સમાજનું હિત થવા કરતાં અહિત વધારે થતું જોવા મળ્યું છે.

કેટલીક વાર ધાર્મિક અંધ શ્રધ્ધા ગાંડપણનું સ્વરૂપ લઇ લે છે એનો કંચનસીંહ કુટુમ્બનો કિસ્સો એક પુરાવો છે .
ધર્મને નામે ધતિંગ ચાલતા હોય છે એમાં નબળા મનોબળ વાળા ભોગ બનતા હોય છે .

” મહાદેવ ” સીરીયલમાં આવી જ રીતે જયારે એક ભક્ત , રાવણનું ઉદાહરણ આપીને જયારે પોતાની આંખો ફોડીને શંકર ભગવાનને તાત્કાલિક રીઝવવા જઈ રહ્યો હતો ત્યારે શંકર ભગવાને તેને તાત્કાલિક અસરથી રોકી તેને ઘણો ધમકાવ્યો હતો અને તેનાથી ભારે નારાજ થયા હતા અને તેમને આવી અંધ-શ્રધ્ધાથી ભારે ચીડ અને નફરત છે તેમ ખુબ જ અસરકારક શબ્દોમાં જણાવ્યું હતું . . .
શાયદ ભારતના આવા અલ્લેલટપુ અને એક પણ વાર પોતાનું ખુદનું મગજ ન વાપરનારા અંધશ્રદ્ધાળુ લોકોએ આ એપિસોડ નહિ જોયો હોય ❓ . . . લોકોને ખુદને આવું સહેલું અને બિન-તાર્કિક સ્વીકારવા ન જાણે કોઈ નશો થતો હોય છે ! અને મારા ખ્યાલે આવનારા કેટલાય વર્ષો સુધી ભારતની આ દશા બદલાવાની નથી 😦 . . . આ સ્થિતિ માત્ર ને માત્ર સમજણપૂર્વકના શિક્ષણથી જ સુધરી શકે .
આપણે હંમેશા , ધાર્મિક કથાઓના ચમત્કાર વિષે જ વાતો કરતા રહીએ છીએ પણ ક્યારેય તેના દ્વારા પેઢીઓની પેઢીઓ સુધી ચાલે તેવું જે ડહાપણ તેની જે બોધકથાઓમાંથી મળ્યું હોય છે તેને નજરઅંદાજ કરી દઈ છીએ 😦 . . . ખરેખર તો સદીઓથી પીસાતા અત્યંત ગરીબ અને મધ્યમ વર્ગો માટે , ધર્મ [ સાચી સમજણ વાળો 🙂 ] એક પ્રકારે મનોવૈજ્ઞાનિક પ્રકારે મલમનું કામ કરી રહ્યો છે . . નહિતર ભારતની મહતમ પ્રજા અત્યારે પાગલ થઇ ચુકી હોત 😉
છેલ્લે , મારા મત મુજબ ધર્મ એટલે સાચી સમજણવાળું જ્ઞાન 🙂

ડૉ. યાસીન દલાલે બધી વીગતો બરોબર સમજાવેલ છે. જેમનાં મગજમાં ચમત્કાર અને ભગવાનનું ભુત ભરાઈ ગયું હોય એ કાઢવું મુશ્કેલ છે. પહેલાં દરેક ગામમાં બધા પીપડ, આંબલી કે વડના ઝાડ ઉપર મોટા મોટા ભુતનો વાશ હતો. એ હીસાબે ગામની આસપાસ ઝાડ ઓછા થઈ ગયા અને ભુતો ગુમ થઈ ગયા. આ ભુત અને કહેવાતા નકલી ભગવાનનો હવે નાશ થવો જોઈએ.

ભાઈ યાસીન દલાલ અને ભાઈ ગોવિંદ મારુનો હું ઘણો બધો આભાર માનું છું .મને ઈસુથી આશરે છસ્સો વરસ પહેલા થઇ ગએલા સમર્થ તત્વ વેત્તા બૃહસ્પતિની વાતો મને બહુ ગમે છે , તેણે અંધ શ્રદ્ધા ઉપર બહુ પ્રહાર કરેલા છે .પણ તેઓએ એક બુક લખેલી .પણ લોકોને અંધશ્રદ્ધા અને વહેમમાં નાખી તાગડ ધિન્ના કરનારા લોકોએ એનું પુસ્તક પણ બાળી નાખેલું અને તેને પણ ક્રુરતાથી મારી નાખેલો તેને તર્કથી પોતાની વાત સમજાવવા પ્રયાસ કરેલો

મૂળ એ ભાઈની બ્રેઈન સર્કિટમાં ગરબડ હશે. એમને સાયકીયાટ્રીસ્ટની સારવારની જરૂર હતી. કેટલાક લોકો ભગવાન જોડે હાજરાહજૂર વાતો પણ કરતા હોય છે. એક ભાઈએ અમદાવાદમાં જીભ પણ કાપી નાખેલી.. માતાજીને જીભ ચડાવેલી…હહાહાહા ચાલ્યા કરે સંસાર છે..હહાહાહા

I echo everyone here. Yes indeed it is nice article. I have always preach and believe that our ‘Veda’ is what our science is today. Unfortunately, during an ancient time, Dharma (Religion) was utilize as tool to convey uneducated peoples regarding Veda. Since then it has become “telephone game” to everyone. Our ancestor pass information to us which was pass to them by their ancestor. Somewhere along the line we forgot practical of messages and fall in to blind faith (Andh shradhaa).
Also, define Dharma : Dharma is not doing abhishek of Shiva or Ganesha with gallons of Milk bath and lavish fruits and foods…. Dharma is humanity. Rather than going to Temple, Church, or Gurudhawara, spend time with elders at Aashram or senior citizen house, spend time in society where it needs most (refrain from publicity). If he had donate blood to blood bank than abhisheking it would have help save life of someone…..
Author touch base with planets and its effect on human life. All I would say is yes their is effect to every living things on earth…. however, our Jyotishi system have created AndhShradhaa from it. By doing certain pooja or fasting one cannot avoid what will be going to be in their fate. Many Indian astrologer will prescribe lavishing pooja and chadhavaa which is useless or waste of commodity.
As Amrutkaka has said in above comment, we must focus ourself and understand reality, understand practical, and preach wherever possible.

Good article but I feel it is one sided. It’s written about blind faith among Hindus. The same thing is found in Muslims and so called forward minded and educationally enlightened Christians too. Muslims visit dargahs and Christians visit churches for Novena to seek favours.
You have mentioned about the the West and it’s people. I live in Toronto (Canada) and let me tell you over here daily English newspapers and magazines are full of stories of blind faith. There are a number of ads of psychic spiritual advisors and pandits promising guarantee for black magic and to cure all your troubles including Cancer!! There are at least a hundred magazines containing these type of miracle stories.
I think spiritual addiction is a form of escapism. This kind of obsession can be just as deadly as substance abuse or gambling (The case mentioned in your article is a glaring example). It often goes unnoticed as most of of the South Asians are considered to be ‘God Fearing.’
Religion may ask you to give up your worldly possessions but hardly any religion suggests you should neglect your earthly responsibilities. I have seen many cases in which so called religious or spiritual people have left behind their family and other responsibilities and gone away to serve their creator. To such people the famous Urdu and Hindi poet and lyricist Late Sahir Ludhiyanvi has written a couplet, “Sansar se bhaage firte ho, Bhagwan kahan se paaoge? Is lok ko apnaa na sake, us lok ko kya tum apnaoge?”
Yasin bhai, I have seen our own Muslims going away in Tableeghi Jamaats when their wives are carrying nine months of pregnancy and their children are longing for foods. Now, I don;t know what to do? Cry or beat such fools? When I asked some of them why they do like this the reply they gave me again
made me more angry. Their reply, and I quote, “Allah is their to take care of! We should not worry!!” They conveniently forget that the same Allah has given them brain to think and use. But no, they won’t do it because they want to follow the easy way of escapism.
A couple of my Hindu friends in Mumbai renounced their worldly belongings and became sadhus leaving behind their wives and school going children!! One of them I met in 2010 when I came to India. At that time he was in a place called Vajreshwari near Mumbai where you find hot water springs. He gives sermons on Ramayan and Bhagwad Geeta!!! When I asked him in my private meeting about his wife and children he said, “I don’t know and I don’t worry about them.”
In some people I find beliefs in religion just like addiction similar to smoking or gambling. To them it’s one type of nasha. and we all know that when a person is intoxicated he forget everything.
Hopefully I haven’t hurt anyone’s feelings. And if anyone is hurt I am NOT going to say sorry because I am within my right to free expression.

Bravo ! Congratulations. You are a truth loving human. I salute you. Blind faith and its carriers are universal. You have covered whole man race rightly without any prejudice or bias.The boundries of villages, cities, states, countries and so called religions do not prevent them by practicing what their blind brain has conceived. It is very difficult to help them. Still we all have to try. It will be a success if the +ve result is one percent.
I have heard a proverb or it was just a quote…This is an eye opner….
અકકલ બદામ ખાવાથી નથી આવતી…..થોકર ખાવાથી આવે છે.
અને અંઘશ્રઘઘામાં રમતાં મુરખો બદામ પણ ખાતા નથી હોતા. થોકર તેમને શું ફાયદો કરે ?
If, possible we the individual unit of this human race has to try to through the light of reality. Old books…Let them decorate the musium walls with due respect.
If, some one can offer a job to those in the business / market in offices ,then that may help reduce THE BUSINESS.

ધાર્મિક અંધ્ધશ્રધ્ધામા ઘરબાર કે જાન ગુમાવવાની ચોંકાવનારી ઘટનાઓનો સુમાર નથી., છતાયે અંધ્ધશ્રધ્ધા-ચમત્કારમા રાચતી ભણેલી પ્રજા પણ બોધ કે શીખ મેળવતી નથી.
આવા જ ધાર્મીક ગાંડપણમા, ડેવીડ કોરેશે(૯૩)મા વેકો, ટેક્ષાસમા ૯૦ થી વધુ અને જીમ જોન્સે(૭૮)મા જોન્સટાઉનમા ૯૦૦ થી વધુ લોકોને સામુહીક આત્મસમર્પણ કરાવી ધર્મના નામે કેવા કેવા ગુન્હાઓ અને ધતીંગો કરેલા જેથી ભાગ્યે જ કોઇ અજાણ હશે.

First & foremost the TV serial that created such a tragic end of a family needs to
be either sesored or stopped.I do not think that such serials relect the real Hindu dharm (religion) as such.Leave aside these so called reigious episodes ; what about the negative rolls shown on amost any serial to it’s extreme ? It’s absoutely unfortunate that instead of showing positve side of any story and without proper research of what really should be tele cast the blame from producers is wrongly given to Hindu Dharma.

જયારે ફીલમ કે સીરીયલની વાત આવે છે તયારે ફકત વેપાર યાદ આવે છે. અંઘશ્રઘ્ઘ્ાના રોગનો આ વેપારીઅો ગેરલાભ ઉઠાવે છે. તેમનો વેપાર લોકોના ઘરો લૂટે છે અને પોતાના ઘરો ભરે છે. કહેવત છે કે, વર મરો કે કનયા મરો પણ બામણનું તરભાણુ ભરો. અંઘશ્રઘ્ઘ્ાના રોગને વઘુ ફેલાવવામાં તે વેપારીઅોને રસ હોય છે. સ્વાથૅ આ વેપારીઅોને આંઘળા બનાવીને સમાજનો નાશ કરવા માટે હાથા બનાવે છે. રાજકારણીયો તેમા જોઈતું તેલ પૂરે છે. પોતાના જણેલા જો ઘર ઊજાડવા બેસે તો પરિણામ શું આવે ?

Agreed, TV serials are responsible to spread the blind faith. but this is not the whole truth. Please remember one thing. We start the TV. We put life to it. It has no life of it’s own. There are so many other good things in TV to watch and gain the knowledge. Yes, serials and films are entertaining and has definite effects on society. Blaming TV and films is just like to pass on our own shortcomings to others.This is yet again an example of escapism.

I couldnot disagree any more than what you have said @ Mr. Firoz Khan. I storngly believe that every human has their own will power to believe whatever they want to believe. We also teach our children things without having full knowledge of it….. which leads in to ‘blind faith’. We must teach to our future generation that see everything however believe only things that convince your heart. As i have imdicated before in my comment: Be practical…be realistic.
Number of holidays we have in our Hindu calander (also in other relagious calender as well) are not practical in todays life. They were created for those era and time where it was appropriate and made sense. Why we continue carry those holiday in todays’ life?
Bottom line: we must differentiate what is practical vs what was practical.

I have read the excellent article by Mr. Yasin Dalal and followed/following comments thereon by other readers. The best comments so far I found are by Mr. Firoz Khan.
Yasin bhai in his article has talked about one particular religion Hinduism and it’s followers Hindus whereas Firoz bhai has talked about everyone without any fear or favour. hats off to him. We actually need many Firoz. He deserve a good support by all of us.
The conflict between believers and non-believers is going on for centuries. And I suppose will go on for years to come. Unfortunately I find extremists on both sides. A believer can be a Rationalist too. Rationalists denounce or to put in mild words deny the theory of ‘Creation.’ They believe only in ‘Evolution.’ Religious people are found practising nonreligious praticies and rituals. God men encourage them to do so because it is their business.
Asa Ram bapu wasted thousands of gallons of water in Nagpur when the state is facing the worst drought. I don’t what religion he parctises? A true Hindu will never do it. Similarly tons of food is wasted in marriages just to entertain guests when millions in India are facing hunger. Coins are thrown into rivers and wells in the name of ‘Abhishek!!; Have these people kept their brains in cold storages?
Recently, I asked one of my Rationalist friends whose name indicates the name of a Hindu God as to why he still carries that name while practising rationalism?
The answer he gave was enough to be fainted. He said because it is the name of a Bhagwan!!

ખૂબ જ સુંદર લેખ માટે લેખક તથા ગોવિંદભાઇને મારા અભિનંદન તેમજ તેમનો આભાર.જો લોકો ધર્મનો સાચો અર્થ સમજે અને તેમાંથી અંધશ્રદ્ધા કાઢી નાંખે તો ઘણાં દુ:ખો આપમેળે દૂર થઇ જાય.પણ મને લાગે છે ઘડિયાળનો કાંટો ઊંધો ચાલે છે.જૂની પેઢી કરતા નવી પેઢીમાં અંધશ્રદ્ધા વિશેષ દેખાય છે એવું મારું તારણ છે પણ તેની ચર્ચામાં ન ઊતરું.શ્રી.રામકૃષ્ણ પરમહંસે પણ એજ કહેલું છે કે, ચમત્કારથી ભગવાન સો જોજન દૂર હોય છે.વર્ષો પહેલાં હું ખંભાતમાં Ph.D. કરતો હતો ત્યારે હું હોસ્ટેલમાં રહેતો હતો આખા ગુજરાતના વિદ્યાર્થી ત્યાં M.Sc. કરવા આવતા.ત્યાં કેરાલાનો પાદરી વિદ્યાર્થી પણ હતો.બધા તેની સાથે ધર્મ– વટાળની ચર્ચા ઉપાડતા.ત્યારે તે એકજ પ્રશ્ન કરતો કે What is Religion ? કોઇથી પણ સંતોષકારક ઉત્તર ન અપાતો. ત્યારે હું કહેતો કે સાંકુરીકર હું જવાબ આપું ત્યારે તે ભાંગીતૂટી ગુજરાતીમાં કહેતો કે મોદી સાહેબ તું નહિ.અત્યાર સુધી મેં એક સાધુને એકજ વાક્યમાં ધર્મસંદેશ આપતો સાંભળ્યો છે કે ‘માનવતાપૂર્વક જીવો’ આ વાક્યમાં બધા ધર્મોનો સાર આવી જાય છે એવું મારું માનવું છે.હમણાં હું જ્યોતિષનું કાર્ય કરું છું ત્યારે ભૂત-પ્રેત,વળગાળ મેલી વિદ્યાની વાત આવે છે ત્યારે મારે એવા લોકને સમજાવવા ‘જીવન એક ખેલ’ નામક અનુવાદિત નાનકડી પુસ્તિકા આપવી પડે છે જે અસલ ઇંગ્લીશમાં સને ૧૯૨૫માં લખાયેલી છે અને જેનો અનુવાદ શ્રી કુન્દિનીકા કાપડિયાએ કરેલો છે જેમાં ચમત્કાર જેવું કંઇ નથી એ વાત વિસ્તારપૂર્વક સમજાવેલી છે.પણ એલ્યૂમનના વાસણ પર કલાઇ ન ચડે એવી પરિસ્થિતિમાં આપણે किं कर्तव्यविमूढ થઇ જઇએ છીએ.

Mr.Yasin Dalal, I really admire your efforts, But anyone on this blog can explain the definition of Dharma ? Truth is eternal, and yet independent. Any extreme’s or intellegence’s ( Science ) pointe of view can change over time by new discoveries because it is limited and dependent on actual truth. but truth remains the truth wether it is covered or dis-covered. We must strive to seek truth, and live a purpose full life. Only eat, drink and be merry is not an appropriate for humans because we have a special gift of intellect and it is granted with purpose.

Blind faith in Religions, is a given. All Religions take part in adding to the Confusion in the name of Gods and Godesses. There are No Gods or Goddesses. They are Created to Divert the Attention from the present Problems of Human Beings. Escapism is the First Lesson taught by ALL Religions.
Simple Religion is DHARMA i.e. DUTY. Help The Human Beings in NEED. Non-Violence teaches VEGETARIANISM and VEGANISM, ANIMAL RIGHTS and GOOD Environment. Religion is a Personal Matter of Practicing Principles of `HUMANISM’.
NO One needs to Go to any Reliious Place or Give Anything to them. Don’t Encourage them with MONEY. Temples, Churches, Gurudwaras Mosques, etc. are for the Preachers to Support their own Living. They do Not HELP any one else. `Help Thyself ‘ is the First Lesson. Right Education is The Only Solution. Let Rationalists emphasise `EDUCAION’ for All the People.
India has played a very Important Role in Promoting False Messages through its own Battalions of GURUS, Pundits, Sadhus who are making a Living by Misguiding the Needy and the Poor, generally. Temples, etc. are a Big Waste of People’s Resources. Don’t Support them.`Simple Living and High Thinking’ is The Religion. Practicing `NON-VIOLENCE’ in day-to-day Life is The Best way to Help All Living Beings Including Animals. Let us Practice All these, One Step at a Time. There is No Need for Discussion.
